    Christmas pipe

And that's another Christmas day pretty much done! Hope it was a wonderful time for all of you, and a fulfilling day spent with family and friends. My little brother bought me a wonderful pipe, a Peterson silver 68. Love the look and feel of this bent billiard and especially the silver band...

    Virginia/Orientals

Unfortunately, smokingpipes.com don't ship to Malta! Looks like I'll have to wait till 4noggins gets a new batch.

4noggins doesn't have Embarcadero in stock. Every time I think I've got over the disappointment... there's a post from Yak

    Virginia/Orientals

Conversational, informative, slightly rambling threads are my favourites too. I've narrowed things down in my selection, will by buying Cairo, Classic Samsun, Oriental Dusk and Sunday Picnic. That's a fair introduction to orientals.... right? :geek:

Classic Samsun doesn't seem to have any Perique - most of the other blends recommended here do though. And it doesn't look like Embarcadero is available (gah!) on any sites that ship to Malta. Didn't realise that Perique could compromise an Oriental blend.

    Virginia/Orientals

great suggestions guys! From the tasting I've done so far, I think that orientals are definitely what I enjoy in terms of flavour. I think that (for the next few months) I might focus on those blends. Classic Samsun, and the Pease ones, are calling to me...

Which are your favourites? What would you recommend? I'm thinking about buying Pease Cairo, but would like to see what else is out there!

    pipes and smokes

The Mac Baren website talks about Burley, Virginia and Cavendish - no mention of rum in its Navy flake (so far this has been my favourite tobacco). Will try to find those older threads (and that blog, thanks!), though it does seem like everyone's got a different system and there are a few basic...

    pipes and smokes

Could somebody explain how tobacco blends (rather than tobacco itself) get divided into different 'families' (or whatever the correct terminology might be) - I've tried doing some research online but "the further in you go, the bigger it gets". I think I might like English blends, but can't...

    cause for concern?

Pipe is Quandale, tobacco is MacB's Navy Flake. I only started the hobby a weekish ago, but I've already bought and sampled quite a few kinds of tobacco (it's kept me away from cigarettes, but yes, a little OTT, I know). The one I most enjoy has been MB's Navy Flake - the Quandale hasn't had...

    Greetings from Malta

thanks all! enjoying it immensely so far, though a little annoyed at the limited tobacco available - none of the more interesting stuff everyone here seems to talk about is available at my local tobacconist (only one I know of). I do plan to purchase another pipe though... asap :P

    Greetings from Malta

Hello guys, I bought my first pipe several days ago and have already played around with several kinds of tobacco (in the same pipe...), not really given the pipe much time to 'rest', and generally made a pig's ear of things. But it's been fun so far! I'm a cigarette smoker, and since smoking a...
