Hello I'm Emma, from Scotland,

Excited to join the forum! I'm part of a group called 'Friends of The Pipe Factory', working to preserve Glasgow's last historic clay tobacco pipe factory building, William White & Sons.

White and Sons operated the factory between 1877 and 1955, with 500 skilled workers producing around 14,000 kaolin clay pipes a day.

Friends of The Pipe Factory are conserving the historic building, while reviving the site as a free creative heritage and traditional skills hub for the local community in the east end of Glasgow.

The building is a treasure trove of clay pipe artefacts, which often turn up unexpectedly in nooks and crannies. As part of our ongoing project, we're cataloguing and digitising the numerous pipes already found (and still being discovered). Our new digital archive will be available soon at the Pipe Factory website

A volunteer heritage research group is also working to map the spread of White's clay pipes around the world, so if you happen to have discovered a Glasgow pipe find where you are, we'd love to highlight it on our digital map!

Great to meet you all. Cheers!

Emma

Welcome Emma great work you are doing there good on you. Great that you have joined us. I love clay pipes and the history, I have found many broken ones while prospecting on old gold diggings and my Dads mate has a wonderful collection of old intact ones. I look forward to reading about the history of WWG thanks. Do you get to test out some of the pipes?;)(y):)

Welcome, indeed. I, for one, would be very interested in hearing more about the project.

Do you have plans to re -instantiate production?
