I would have to say that Rimkus pipes are excellent quality at a very reasonable price.
But I am the pipe maker and you were probably looking for an unbiased opinion.
Wow, that is plenty to get you going and give you time to figure out what you like or want to try next.
You are lucky to be by Birmingham and The Briary.
It makes no sense that ebonite/vulcanite can be cut thinner than Lucite. I cut my Lucite bits down to 0.160 inch at the lip, which is the same as others using ebonite. The rubber is soft and will cave in if cut thin. Lucite is much more durable. There is more to the bit comfort than just...
I have been looking at getting a Bolbo ever since the Vegas Show.
I have also heard of the difficulty of refilling. I have not heard of a reliable filling method.
If anyone knows how to fill these Tsubota lighters without spraying every where, please speak up. :?:
I have also heard that they...
I use Aniline Dyes Alcohol Soluble from Luthiers Mercantile International.

I have only ordered from Byron once and had a good experience. Shipping was very reasonable for 3 12 packs of 5 brothers. Sorry you had a bad experience.
If you like Carter Hall you should try 5 Brothers which is another OTC but I like it better than CH. A Virginia that is easy to smoke is McClelland 5100. If you want a nice and sweet smelling Cavendish try McClelland VBC (Vanilla Black Cavendish). In general, McClelland 51xx bulks are good for...
This is a very hard briar plateau that was stained black, sanded lightly, and stained light brown. As you can see the black penetrated more along the plateau edge.
I have noticed a lot of variation in the briar as far as how it takes stain. I can tell when I am working it if it is soft or hard. The soft briar tends to really take the stain deep and I have not figured out what extra can be done for it.
The harder briar does not soak the stain up too much...
I use Aniline Dyes Alcohol Soluble. Pimo sells some but I get mine from a Luthier supply.
I really like your 2nd pipe.
How did you rusticate, if I may ask?
:sunny:
Yes, I also found Penzance to be a wonderful smoke.
Yes, my tastes do change but they swing from Virginia to heavy Latakia, so have to keep some of each and all in between.
If you like heavy Latakia, try Ten Russians.
Yes, a cork is nice. Hold the pipe by the shank, not the stem, to tap. Use a tool to loosen ash and dottle. Don't just bang like you are driving nails.
I'd like to use them from time to time but the couple I got just tasted like rubber. I tried soaking them in whiskey, but they still tasted bad.
Anyone else notice this? Anyone know which brand is not like this?
While most of the one star reviews are worthless, Ive actually had a couple help me to select that blend because of the bad review.
The one star review said the tobacco (English Blend) had an after taste. The other reviews were good and I do like a smoke with a flavor that will linger...
1,909 plays now. Looks like you will break 2,000 before the end of the month.
Comments from friends, She is really good, I like that a lot, WOW WOW WOW, etc.
Best wishes :sunny:
