    Dunhill 60s Root

Yes! One of my luckier finds on ebay - was very poorly photographed, but I had a feeling about it. The owners story was that his dad bought it to help give up cigs, but instead gave up the pipe after a single afternoon and stuffed it in a draw.

Of Pipe Buying,Collecting & Learning (Long)

350 pipes, way out of my league - sounds sort of fun though! Agree with you about over large pipes - This is my most screwball over large pipe purchase (so far) which I bought for some reason about 10 years ago. Not sure what I was thinking : It's a huge Ser Jacopo Della Gemma...

    Dunhill 60s Root

That's a really nice looking pipe, looks like a good smoking shape too. You could just look at that without reading the markings and guess it was a Dunhill. Surprise about the white spot - legend has it that was added a bit later, according to a book I have. I think the early spots were ivory...

    Dunhill 60s Root

Would be great to see some pics of your early Dunhills. I think Dunhill started producing pipes in 1910 so a 1912 one would be a really early example and presumably wouldn't yet have a white spot (1915 I think).

    Dunhill 60s Root

Well, I'll just have to think of another good excuse :)

    Dunhill 60s Root

Found this on ebay and had to get it, my excuse being that I currently have only 13 dunhills which could be unlucky. Its a 35 F/T group 3, 1964 in nearly mint condition (after a little clean & polish). I much prefer these pre 4 figure number Dunhills that were made before 1975 to the newer...

    Hoots Mon!

Definately. I do have less facial hair than would appear to be de rigeur on BoB, but that can't be the reason - Quite the opposite one might have thought - even I might be tempted to beep if I saw Gandalf or Father Christmas coming in the other direction.

    Hoots Mon!

What's wrong with putting the pipe in the socket that was designed for it - i.e. mouth? Perhaps what you need is some device, similar to what they use to feed Charlie Chaplin in Modern Times.

    Hoots Mon!

For some reason, I get hooted at by other drivers when pipe smoking in my car. I can't think why - anyone else had the same experience?

    Germain's Brown Flake

Thanks for finding that out Balckhorse! I was taking steps to sequester the entire UK supply of the flake after reading the OP.

A little dottle never hurt anyone.

This is about the best explanation of how to smoke flakes that I've seen. Really belongs in a FAQ (hint) rather than a post way down the bottom of thread. I often think that some of the reviewers on the tobacco review web site might have some problems with packing, particularly when they slate...

    J F Germain Dark Flake?

    Good idea, might try that.

    Stanwell

Anyway the factory closure is good excuse to stock up with Stanwells. Thinks: "Quick I must get those Stans before they all disapear!! No time can be lost!".

The Official Gawith & Hoggarth Thread

I put up another thread about JFG Dark Flake so as not to coopt the G&H thread. Although my impressions of Warrior and Revor are somewhat different to yours, we most certainly agree about JFG Brown Flake!

    J F Germain Dark Flake?

This mythical tobacco is apparently J.F. Germain's equivalent of Stonehaven (which is an Esoterica tobacco not marketed on this side of the pond i.e. UK). However, the only place I've seen it referred to is on: http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend_detail.cfm?ALPHA=D&TID=4005. Does anyone know if...

    The Pipe Smokers Of Mombaru

Yes, I was sorry to have to admit that the natives of Mombaru are probably not pipe smokers at all and just common or garden knights and knaves as described by Raymond Smullyan. Also, I have to admit that the tobacco I mentioned was also somewhat mythical. Nevertheless, it may be that there is...

    The Pipe Smokers Of Mombaru

Well I suppose the cat is out of the bag. knight/knave problems were invented by Raymond Smullyan to illustrate some ideas in propositional logic, such as Godel's theorem. I think they're a lot of fun and had a laugh trying to reformulate them in terms of pipe smoking. I see that I'll have to...

    The Pipe Smokers Of Mombaru

That's a really interesting way of looking at it! If the guy is a smoker then because, in that case, he must be speaking the truth, both he and his wife must both be smokers, given that he is a smoker. And that's exactly what he said so the statement "if I'm a smoker then so is my wife" is true...

    The Pipe Smokers Of Mombaru

That seems pretty convincing, now why didn't I think of that? But I'm still puzzled by the 2nd and 3rd houses.
