    Sutliff bulk 20% @SmokingPipes

Panna Cotta is very similar to Creme Brûleé/Molto Dolce but without the honey in those two blends so it's a bit less sweet. It's also for me in a similar vein to Lane LL-7 or pipesandcigars.com Trout Stream. As always, YMMV!

    Sutliff bulk 20% @SmokingPipes

As the holidays approach this is a great opportunity to try Sutliff's Pumpkin Spice & Christmas Spice, two terrific aromatic tobaccos. Sutliff makes a number of really good blending tobaccos but I'm especially fond of their aromatics. Molto Dolce, Creme Brûleé, Vanilla Custard, & Panna Cotta...

    Gourmet versus Comfort Food blends

For me the comfort food equivalents in pipe tobaccos are blends like McClelland 5100, MacBaren Symphony, Lane LL-7 & RLP-6, and pipesandcigars.com Trout Stream. Not necessarily my top favorites (I have way too many of those!) but always seem to satisfy..

    Uhle's Tobacco

I agree - all your choices are terrific.

    Uhle's Tobacco

I lived in Milwaukee for 5 years - a wonderful city - and get back regularly. Uhle’s is an old school tobacconist and definitely worth a stop. Everyone there couldn’t be more helpful or more friendly. Take her out to lunch at one of the many restaurants along the Milwaukee River just around...

John Patton blends at 4 Noggins...MIA!

I wonder if some of the John Patton blends used McClelland tobaccos. While it’s not a John Patton blend, I’m a big fan of 4noggins Weybridge which is also mia. It has that tang reminiscent of McClellands & I suspect that’s why it’s no longer listed on the website.

    Unique Blends

+1 for Rattray's Exotic Orange.  Probably the most unique blend I've tried in years.  I never thought I would appreciate an orange-flavored pipe tobacco, but every time I fire up a bowl of this blend I think to myself, "Wow, this stuff is incredible!". A blend I personally find really unique and...

    Benjamin Hartwell Signature blend

I thought the Benjamin Hartwell Signature Blend was made by McClelland, so I'm very surprised it's still in stock.

    4 Noggins house blends

I've tried Essence of Vermont, Three Blind Moose, & Weybridge - all outstanding. If you also consider Storm Front by John Patton & sold by 4noggins, it's outstanding too. I wouldn't hesitate to try more of their house blends.  YMMV

    ll7 or mv1000

Big fan of both Lane LL-7 & MV-1000. I find LL-7 to be like RLP-6 with more of a caramel flavor. MV-1000 is like a bulk version of Captain Black Gold. Both are high quality bulks, easy to put in the pipe & puff away, mild but tasty, & have a wonderful room note.

    Rope Tobacco

I have a Xikar cutter that works great for cutting ropes.  You can cut nice thin coins that can be easily rubbed out.

    Who Likes Aromatics?

I would guess I smoke aromatics about 75% of the time. When it comes to which ones, I've tried a significant number of wonderful blends over time. I've enjoyed blends from Lane Limited, Peter Stokkebye, Sutliff, MacBaren, McClelland, Captain Black, etc. I'm especially fond of blends from...

    Cube Cutting Flake Tobacco

Cube cutting flake tobacco is just another alternative to rubbing out the flake.  To cube cut flake tobacco I just use a scissors, cutting across the flake.  The cubes aren't necessarily perfectly uniform, but it does the job.

Enhancing Granger's flavor with an aromatic - question

Whenever I try a blend that just needs a little something extra, I remember an old trick my Grandmother used to make any recipe better - add a tsp of sugar. So I'd recommend adding a bit of Sutliff Creme Brûlée (or its doppelgänger Sutliff Molto Dolce), Lane LL-7, or McClelland VBC. Don't need...

Are the S. Gawith 250 gm boxes suitable for aging?

Just picked up a 250 gm. box of Gawith St. James Flake off the P&C special.   Do I need to jar the tobacco or can it be left in the box to age? Thanks!

Jim's Sam Gawith Cabbie's Mixture Review.

Another fine review - thanks. Will Samuel Gawith's Cabbie's Mixture be sold in the US & if so, when?

Mac B's Modern Virginia , loose cut

I also received a pouch of MacBaren Modern Virginia Loose Cut with a recent order.  I've only had a couple bowlfuls, so too early to truly see if this blend will knock my socks off.  I consider myself fortunate that MacBaren blends don't bite, and a couple are even true favorites.  Initial...

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.: "Bright CR Flake".

Nice review - thanks! Had a bowlful of G&H Bright CR Flake today - a marvelous Virginia pipe tobacco.

    Half and Half Is Back!

I don't recall ever trying the old Half and Half when I first started smoking a pipe in the late '60's.  Hadn't read much good about more recent versions so didn't try those.  This past year I received a $1-for-a-pouch coupon from STG for what apparently is the latest version of Half and Half...
