Cup o' Joes came through today with my new Peterson, H&H LA. Red and some Dan's Blue Note.

The H&H wasn't as mild as I had hoped, but I am sure a lot of that is smoking out of a brand new pipe. It was a great experience nonetheless. One of the guys I hang out, who usually smokes cigars is thinking about getting himself a pipe as well. Can't wait to try the Blue Note, it smells wonderful in the tin.

Now I have to break in my Peterson properly.....

Nice!!! Any pictures? (I've been really into "pipe porn" lately... heheheheh)

Give the pipe a chance to get some cake built up, and that'll help the bite of the tobacco. I've learned, too, smoking method can make a difference. I have tobaccos I can smoke on all day, fast or slow, and they almost never bite, others require a little more smooth draw.

Lastly, how did Cup o' Joes do? I'm always leery of dealing with Internet businesses until I hear an official customer report...

Kyle, I'll get some pics up tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting that good cake going for sure. Joes did a great job. I think that they shipped it out the day after I ordered. Everything was well packaged and it made the trip to Afghanistan in about 12 days. We only get mail about twice a week so it may have been in country earlier. I will do business with them again for sure!

Mister E, I think I ordered on the 8th. I was day dreaming about the what to get for about three weeks...lol. I got some great suggestions though, can't wait to try that Blue Note!

I'm glad it made it. Enjoy! Cup O Joes has been good to me in the past. Not as good as some, but good nonetheless. I just don't like the fact they don't post the weight of pipes. Seems strange to me? Again, enjoy!

Pack it, smoke it and just don't let it get too hot. Too much heat too early on is the only real thing you have to worry about, IMHO.

As someone who usually overthinks everything, just go with the KISS principle, relax and enjoy the smoke...nothing to stress about.

Read this post, which is excellent. Personal preferences will dictate some of your choices, but #2 and #3 of the original post are words to smoke by!

Enjoy!

Best of luck with the new pipe and the tobaccos! We're all looking forward to pics of the 'new arrival'!

Deepbass...thanks for the link, very informative.

The Peterson is smoking better everytime I use it. I found that I was not packing my pipe tight enough to keep it lit, that, and/or the small amount of cake that is accumulating is really making a difference. I tried the H&H again last night, and it was much more enjoyable this time around, not as harsh and it smoked just a bit cooler. I am guessing it's because I packed it a little better last night. I can't wait to try the Blue Note tonight with my new packing technique. I will get some pics up soon. I get pretty busy out here and before you know it, the sun is down and it's time to smoke, shower and sleep!

I hope that this is done correctly.....had a real nice smoke tonight. Keeps getting better and better..

BTW, that light portion on the bowl was from the flash, the picture makes it look like a scrape....it's a great looking pipe.

Great first pipe! My first pipe was a natural finish Savinelli University. I don't think I'll ever part with it.

I love P lips. My Peterson's Captain Pete XL Bulldog is my mainstay pipe. The more you smoke it, the more you'll notice how much the cake makes a difference.

I personally love Cup o Joes. They are my main supplier of pipe/tobacco when I'm overseas. Even across the world I'd get their orders within four days.

Very nice pipe ! Love the rich tone and grain of the briar. Great first pipe for sure. Enjoy the journey.
