    Curing

Is there a certain responsibility when briar is first received by a pipe maker for he or she to properly cure the briar? I believe there is. Whether the briar is oil cured or air cured... it must be cured beyond the processing procedures such as boiling and kiln drying. There is nothing worse...

    Over Reaming

The only problem with pictures is that it's an eBay auction and if I throw it up here now then I may create my own competition. I'll throw up a picture after the auction ends regardless of whether I win it or not. Just for discussion sake. Cheers, Milan

    Over Reaming

Thanks for the input. The pipe in question has been overreamed at the rim of the bowl causing the top of the bowl to become slightly off circle. I imagine by packing a more shallow full bowl that this should avoid making the problem worse? In other words, you know how the part of the rim that...

    Over Reaming

Will a pipe that has been over reamed be more susceptible to burnout? Are there any other things to consider before purchasing a pipe that has been slightly over reamed? Thanks, Milan

    Break-in rituals

I used to break pipes in with three or four half bowls of burley before going for it, but now I just pack the pipe with the tobacco I think I will be smoking in it and go for it, slowly though. The problem is that you will find some pipes work better with certain tobaccos or that you simply...

    Reminiscing Cuba's Black Market

I smoked a lot of Hoyo de Monterrey coronas because they were affordable. We smoked a number of Montecristo, Cohiba, and Romeo y Julieta Churchills. It's been so long it's nearly impossible for me to compare Cubans to non-Cuban cigars. I'm more into cigars now than I was then. Fuente...

    Reminiscing Cuba's Black Market

Well... there actually is a such thing as too much freedom, this is why there are laws. I would support a politician who said "too many freedoms can create problems" if I believed the freedoms he was talking about were creating problems. This is kind of what politics is about. The problem is...

    Reminiscing Cuba's Black Market

Yeah... our freedoms do exceed those of Cubans. I hope someday they experience our same freedoms. Hopefully that day does not bring some of the same problems our country is faced with including: school shootings, unequal access to education, an ever-escalating divorce rate, an unsurmountable...

    Reminiscing Cuba's Black Market

It's all relative. I met Cubans who were very happy to live in Cuba. I suppose it's just like any other place. You know, there are actually people who feel that living in the US is difficult. Lose your house, your job, your health benefits, etc... and living in Cuba might not be so bad.
