I've never felt that older is better. I have a couple of old pipes that are old because I bought them when I was young. They don't get smoked very often because I prefer the newer more open pipes. I owned a 68 Mustang Convertible in 1970 and I loved it, I believe I traded it in on a station...
I don't own a Kevin Author pipe but I stumbled on this thread awhile ago and I thought it might be of interest to posters on this thread. So take it for what it is worth: http://www.pipesmokerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?1579-Kevin-Authur
End the pain Rusty Mouse! Buy yourself a nice pipe maybe made by one of the brothers or check out a few of the different pipe makers web sites. You don't have to break the bank, check out Mark Tinsky's site, he has pipes listed for under $200 and he makes a pretty decent smoker. The quest is...
I have 6 or 7 Wiley's and 2 Ardors. My Wiley's are very good to great smokers and both of my Ardors are great smokers. I would probably have more Ardors but their price has gone up to where it rivals Castello and I really like Castello's. Anyway you can't go wrong with a Wiley. He makes a...
Since I have all the pipes I should ever need my plan is to sell a few of the pipes I just don't reach for very often, cut back on the number of pipes I've been buying and purchase only 2 quality pipes this year. The 1st will be a Rad Davis "Dublin Poker" and the 2nd is yet to be decided. PAD...
You can still buy their pipes at EDWARDSTOBACCO.COM they are reasonably priced and if they still smoke like the almost 40 year old that I have they are a good value.

Puff Daddy - An other interesting but it seems related story:
When my daughter and son in-law planned a trip to Turkey a couple of years ago I couldn’t resist asking them to check out any meerschaum pipes they came across. I even gave them a copy of a blog I found from an American touring Turkey...
How about an American Pipe? Google Grey Fox Pipes (GFO) and check out the New Kaywoodie Sterlings. I bought 2 grade 3's from them, the Sterlings have a push/pull acrylic stem, and they are both great smokers. Also both of the ones I have are bent have an open draw and pass the pipe cleaner...
I'd like to help you out on this but my experience with Peterson's is very limited. I did have a system Pete back in the 80's and it was a good smoker. It's the only pete that I've ever owned. My problem with it was that I didn't care for the P-Lip (I think that's what they call it) and I...
This is also a group thing, but my heart beats a little faster when I get to the Cavicchi's in my rotation (I have 21 Cavicchi's). I have been known to sneak one in, from time to time, in other parts of the rotation.
