Ok folks...pretty open ended question here. I'm on something of a budget, and wondering what you guys think are the best options in the $75-$100 range?

Some background:
I've never really had a problem with PAD (TAD is a whole other ball of wax), and have managed to enjoy nearly 10 years of pipe smoking with 6-7 briars (smoked regularly) and a handful of cobs (used for trying new blends, doing yard work, or short car trips). Recently, I've had the opportunity to spend more time smoking...I have one pipe set aside for light aros, one for heavier aros, one for the occasional English blend (not a big Lat fan), and the rest for the VAs/VaPers. This last category has gotten a whole of attention lately. Rather than make a habit out of regularly smoking a pipe twice in a day, I'd like to pick up a new pipe without committing a truck load of cash to the proposition. FWIW, I'm not all that interested in meerschaum, nor in churchwardens.

Thoughts?

You can find a lot of Stanwell and Peterson's in that price range if you are looking for new pipes. Hard to go wrong with either.

I would look at some Savinellis along with the other brands mentioned.

The $100 (+/-) range is a great one. There's many out there to choose from, Savinelli, Nording, Stanwell, Peterson... you have a lot of deciding to do, but you'll choose wisely. I just know it. 8)

...it's funny too... the justification: "...for just $30 more dollars you can have XXXXXX pipe, for only $20 more than that you can have ZZZZZZZ pipe..." ...and so on and so forth... If you're going to be a "non-PAD" kind of guy, go with some serious quality pipes ($200+) and call it good. They'll last a lifetime. Most of us afflicted with serious PAD have to really be careful. We'll have 50 so-so pipes, 50 good pipes and maybe a handful of jaw-droppers--but love them all equally. Or if we're rich, have 300 jaw-droppers. Takes all kinds. 8)

C'mon, it's only $750.00. You know you want it.
You know you want it.
You know you want it.
You're feeling sleeeeepy.

Whoa, freaky. I just woke up and have six emails saying my debit card was declined from various pipe retailers...

...I wonder how that happened?

Musta been a ghost. 8)

I don't know if this will be of any use to you, but when I buy I pipe I buy estate. All the new pipes that have been recommended are great pipes, but estates double your money. I establish a price range and cruise the Italian estates on smokingpipes. I get great pipes.

How about an American Pipe? Google Grey Fox Pipes (GFO) and check out the New Kaywoodie Sterlings. I bought 2 grade 3's from them, the Sterlings have a push/pull acrylic stem, and they are both great smokers. Also both of the ones I have are bent have an open draw and pass the pipe cleaner test better than some of my high end pipes. Grades 2 & 3 are under $100 and grade 1 I believe is $105, all of their pipes get free shipping. Just another alternitive.

I second that estate suggestion that and would include the English section as well. You can't go wrong either way. You will not get stung on SmokingPipes, an outcome that is never a sure thing on Ebay.

I said the Italian section as I like Italians best; but if you avoid the English pipes, you also avoid all those silly, price-inflated Dunhills. The point is to check out estates.

I'll have a poke around the estates as you guys suggest.

Also, thanks for all of the input from everyone. Something I should have mentioned at the outset is that I'm looking for something other than a Peterson...not that I have a problem with them. It's just that I've got one (in fact, its my favorite pipe in the collection). I suppose logic would dictate that if I know I like a Pete, best to get another one; but then, what fun would it be if I didn't try something new!

I just succumbed to another James Upshall P-Grade bent billiard. One of my now two will have to leave the nest. I'll know in a couple of days.
