    Which VAPER is Best?

Of course, this is the best answer of all, and the reason for my post in the first instance. Thanks to everyone for the terrific responses and great suggestions. I now have a bunch of new blends to add to the experimentation list

    Which VAPER is Best?

Is this "Black Parrot" something different than the McClelland that I listed?

    Which VAPER is Best?

Sorry, I actually meant to write "cake", not "flake".

    Which VAPER is Best?

Virginia Perique blends are my favorite. That said, I have not sampled a huge variety. I found that I really like Escudo, DNR, Frog Morton on the Bayou, Bullseye and Haddo's Delight, and those are the ones I have stuck with over the years. Now that I'm 50, I decided it was time to get...

    Help with Pipe Identification

Pipephil concurs that its a Briarcraft second. I told him that he could post the photos if he wants to. Hope he does . . .

    Help with Pipe Identification

I'll go you one better . . . Check out the Briarcraft seconds "Airo" and "Cavalcade". Both of these have the horizontal yellow diamond, just like the Sachs and this pipe. Looks like this is definitely a Briarcraft of some type. Thanks for the great research, Mr. E! I've sent the pictures...

    Help with Pipe Identification

I'm glad the post generated at least one positive result! I also looked at pipehil with no luck. Maybe someone else will have any idea?

    Help with Pipe Identification

Anyone have any clue as to the details of this pipe (brand, manufacturer, dating, etc.)? My research has turned up empty. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! FYI, the photos make the stem appear as though it is too large for the shank. Actually, it is a perfect fit. The...

    2013 Chicago Pipe Show

I've been in the hobby since 1995, but this will be my first show, proudly representing Minnesota's Great Northern Pipe Club (Tony Soderman, a/k/a "Mr. Can", President). Will be staying in a Pheasant Run Courtyard room Thursday thru Saturday nights. With the tax and $35 resort fee, my total...

    Insuring your hobby and investments

I bet your agent just wanted to take a day trip to see your collection! :) Apologies for the misleading syntax in my comment about "replacement cost." Indeed, "replacement cost" means exactly that: the value of the pipes at the time of loss, not at the time they were initially purchased or...

    Castello "US" Stamp Question

Thanks much for the info. I've saved the referenced page in my Favorites.

    Insuring your hobby and investments

I just checked into this last week. I am insured by Farmers, and was told that they would not insure my collection on a valued-basis in a separate rider (like they do for jewelry and other more conventional items). The advantages of having a rider, among other things, are that there is no...

    Castello "US" Stamp Question

My research showed the same: That Castello started using the "diamond" because its White Bar looked too much like the Wally Frank version; that at some point after that Castello discontinued using the diamond and went to the White Bar on its US pipes; and then at some even later point they...

    Castello "US" Stamp Question

Does anyone know any details about when and why Castello began staming "US" on their pipes destined for the American market? Is there any general quality difference when compared with Castellos sold in Europe. I'm reading some conflicting reports and it would be nice to hear from someone who...

    Dr. Watson stupid?

I know this is an older post, but since I really like this topic I thought I'd jump in. I agree with everyone who has said that Watson is not at all a stupid man, nothwithstanding the ACD interview. The written stories themselves and the later BBC and other radio programs consistently depict...

    Hello from Minneapolis

Thanks for the great Welcome and comments on the estate pipes post, Boulder. I think you and I may have some lively and interesting debate on the broader philosophical issues. I am in full agreement regaring the absolute need to guard against tyrany. But you and I may or may not disagree as...

    Hello from Minneapolis

Amen to that! The politicians can't seem to get it sorted out, but in their defense there is, unfortunately, a lot of public setiment against it in this economic climate. Hopefully people can be convinced that the economic (and for us fans, emotional) consequences of losing the Vikes would be...

    Hello from Minneapolis

I sure am--just attended my first meeting a couple months ago, and plan to make more of them going forward. Great group of guys. I've been in this hobby for so long, on and off, that I'm ashamed not to have gotten involved with the community earlier! As for the Vikes, it's time for a Ponder...
