    What Are You Reading?

I am taking note. BTW, have you read "The Peloponesian War" by Donald Kagan? Historical book witten in a very fluent and accessible way. Waiting? I am agonising! I discover the series in Christmas 06, read the four books in about two months, full steam ahead .... and going to a sudden...

Added a new pipe today -

Wow! The shape & grain, golden colour, the way how the shank connects with the mouthpiece, and the beautiful birdseye pattern at the bottom. Congratulations! It paid off your hard work. How many hours did you invest on it? Cheers

Cuban Politics and the American Embargo

With the Cuban revolution, many of the cigar factory owning families left Cuba ( sooner or later) and opened cigars operations elsewhere ( Honduras, Nicaragua, etc.) under the same trademarks they were using back in Cuba. The issue with the trademark ownership has already started with the name...

Cuban Politics and the American Embargo

100% Cuban, Carlos. And exporting raw Cuban tobacco is forbidden. The only way how tobacco can be exported from Cuba is "torcido" ( manufactured). This is something closely watched by the Cuban Gov . They also have their own seed bank and tobacco seed strain ( Corojo, Criollo, Habana 2000, etc.)...

Cuban Politics and the American Embargo

Hi All, I am really sorry about how difficult/impossible/ilegal is for US citizen to enjoy a good Cuban cigar. For me "cigar" means Cuban, since my first child memories of my Dad smoking "Habanos". BAT ( British American Tobacco) has bought Altadis ( Spanish-French Tobacco company). Altadis is...

    Levels of humidity in tobacco

Cheers, Greg for the info. I was looking for something along those lines. That's a fascinating path you are in, as a tobacco "createur" ( I envy you). I hope it doesn't spoil your enjoyment of a good smoke while "off duty". :D ( Rorschard! ;) ) Thomas, I understand what you mean . Besides,I...

    Levels of humidity in tobacco

For cigars, it is adviced a relative humidity of 60-70% at 21C ( I am metric, sorry); above that humidity level, you will risk having mold .I personally prefer 60% . I don't know which relative humidity should be for pipe tobacco: I'll join you, waiting for an answer :)

    What Are You Reading?

Thank you! Tracked them down at Amazon; those three are going down my list next. I am currently reading the Complete Sherlock Holmes collection: apart from the obvious, it gives a good insight into the Victorians and some old fashioned English.

    Levels of humidity in tobacco

Thank you for your feedback, gents. I may be getting my brains fried with so many hours in front of the computer  , but I was thinking something along the lines of soil moisture meter like this Soil Moisture Meter and I am not sure if this would work with tobacco :cyclops: . The...

    Levels of humidity in tobacco

As I am getting older, I am getting pickier with the levels of moisture in my tobacco. I want to smoke a pipe then and there, without having to wait a couple of days because that specific tobacco is too dry or too humid ( for my taste). With cigars is easy ( digital/analog hygrometer), but I am...

    Kaixo denoi! Hello everyone!

No, but I was kidnapped by one ( my wife  ). I have been living in Scotland for 13 years now. Originally from Bilbao ( Basque Country), I was working for a UK company, my boss was a lass from Scotland and I thought I could get promoted by engaging with her in extra-curricular activities...

    Kaixo denoi! Hello everyone!

Glad to find this forum, and very honoured to be part of this community. With the increasing smoking restrictions we are having for smoking in indoor public places ( well, no public spaces are allowed premises habilitated for smoking) in Scotland, smoking a pipe or a cigar has become a very...

Pipe sightings in a movie on TMC

Gettysburgh: plenty of pipe smoking in the beginning, with very beautiful pipes ( or , at least, that's the way I remeber it). A great war movie, but the image of the different pipes is my first mental association with that movie. I think I have to watch it again.
