To Jar or Not To Jar?

Oh...I generally smoke a couple of bowls per day, usually in the late afternoon/evening. There's a couple of tins that are feeling pretty dry to me, but then I'm comparing to bulk bags I buy from out of state. It's kind of hard to know what's "too dry", as it's sort of a relative concept.

To Jar or Not To Jar?

Well...I live in Alabama, where it's hot as Hades and lots of Humugity, so moisture is generally not a problem, other than winter time, when the humidity generally drops back to what we consider to be "normal" The places where I stash my tobacco are inside the conditioned part of the house, so...

To Jar or Not To Jar?

I have found myself with several different tins open at the same time, mostly 50g tins, but some 100g as well, so I have a question for you more experienced pipers. As a general type rule, how long will an open tin stay "fresh" before you need to jar it. Same question, but with a larger zip...

Whats your favorite tobacco and why?

I have found Tewksbury's Hobbit's Weed to be quickly becoming my "go to" tobacco, regardless of the time of day. Later in the evening, I will smoke whatever I choose out of the drawer.

How did you guys get over tung bite?

Some blends just seem to bite me more than others. The only two blends I've discovered recently that do not bite me both come from Tewksbury & Co. out of Denver...Hobbit's Weed and Bar Harbor. Particularly the Hobbit's Weed...probably my most favorite tobacco I've ever smoked, bar none. Their...

    Frank Method of Packing

    Sorta...just miniturized a bit... :D

    Frank Method of Packing

I've even started using my cigar torch, as in the video. Mine puts out a very confined flame, so no worries about charring the rim of the bowl. It does fuse the top layer of tobacco together like glue. The method does work...

    Churchwarden Pipes, Benefits?

I picked up a MacQueen Wizard a few weeks ago...the Briar bowl version. It's really a nice pipe and smokes well. I bought the display holder as well and it looks nice sitting on my coffee table in the den. It makes for a nice smoke when you are just sitting around, but is impractical for...

    Tewksbury & Company

Smoked another bowl of the Bar Harbour last night out of a recent estate pipe I purchased that has been "neutralized". Second impression is still very good. In the bag, there are hints of coffee, vanila, and chocolate...my wife's description. The taste becomes more complex as you smoke the...

    Tewksbury & Company

Though I've smoked a pipe off and on since I was in my early 20's (I'm now 60), I've gotten more "serious" about it recently as I am trying to give up the cigarettes...again. Although I smoke Nat Sherman MCD ciggies, which are 100% natural tobacco with no additives, they are both expensive and...

    Tewksbury & Company

Yes, I had to call them due to their site being down. Very, very nice folks. If you put any stock in the Tobaccoreview site, several of their tobaccos have good reviews, particularly the Hobbit Weed. The Bar Harbour also got a good review, but only one person, so it's kind of hard to judge by...

    Tewksbury & Company

After reading dozens of good reviews about some of their in-house blends, I decided to order three and try them. Hobbit's Weed; Sunset Rum; Bar Harbour. The guy on the phone was super nice and very helpful. I ordered on Thursday and had it the mailbox Saturday, so fast service. First, let me...

    Frank Method of Packing

This has probably been discussed before, but I ran across it for the first time yesterday and thought I'd give it a try. If you Google "Frank Method" you'll get a three part youtube video on how to do this. Basically, I've been doing the three part method for years with good results, and...

    Acrylic or ?

I have a couple of pipes...actually three...that must have vulcanite stems, as they are easily discolored and get that "nicotine" stain on the bit quite easily. One is a bent apple that simply has the stamp "Made in England"...it's at least 30 years old and the stem is heavily oxidized, though...

    New Pipes in the collection

I have been on a buying spree lately, trying to get enough pipes to be able to smoke a different one morning, afternoon, and a couple of bowls in the evening. I aquired a Radice 2010 Christmas Edition, which is a squat Rhodesian in shape, with a burgany colored "sea rock" finish on bottom and...

    Anybody heard of this?

I received the pipe a week or so ago and have smoked 4-5 bowls of Loren 1864 in it. The pipe is beautifully made, the briar is striking, and the pipe smokes extremely nice, particularly considering it is new. I will buy another of his pipes if I ever find one.
