Hey Jeep - i just got my first every pipe today, and it is very similar to that there - a clay churchwarden just a bit shorter than yours i think. Where is the vent place on your bowl - mine is in the side wall at the bottom - smokes ok but not brilliantly (could also describe me I suppose!)

any reason you couldn't just cut a cigar in 4-5 bits and smoke it in you pipe - should be easy to find one the right diameter - check the ring size ;)

If your keen on making your own get a copy of "The art of Fermentation" by Sandor Ellix Katz. It's fascinating and rather brilliant. Fermented foods are meant to be brilliant for health (particularly that of the lungs!) and taste great - I figure they help cut the damage that the baccy will do...

But ONLY if smoked in a $5 dimestore pipe - the plastic enhances the flavour. :face:
