Who rubs out flake and who just stuffs it in?

Thanks Stick. I can see how that would work well. Definitely going to try that method next time. Seems like it would save some time for sure.

    TAD in full effect

Update: I just received my Boswell English Sampler yesterday. Six 1 oz. ziplock baggies. Northwoods Countryside Railroad Station Magnum Blend Light English Titus I’m not going to review each one as they are thoroughly reviewed on TR. Personally I really enjoyed every one of them and they are...

    Dedicating pipes to blends

OK. Thanks for the replies. Most of my non-aro pipes have had a significant amount of Latakia smoked in them. I’ll just continue to rotate like normal and see what happens. Not trying to get too technical and like to keep it simple if I can.

    1 oz samples in baggies

Great. I’m really enjoying them. Be advised they are fairly light/mild. Northwoods and Railroad Station being the strongest. All taste really good. I was looking for “all day” tobaccos and these are perfect. Thanks again. Enjoy.

    Dedicating pipes to blends

Collection now up to 24 pipes. Mostly briars and half a dozen MM cobs. Up until now, I’ve separated my aro pipes from my English pipes, generally about 1/3 to aros and the rest to English. About 90% of the English blends I smoke contain Latakia, some of them fairly heavy lat bombs. Well, as my...

    Ashing

Used to dump all the time when I first started. More out of curiosity than anything else just to see what was going on in there. Now it’s only occasionally if a relight warrants it. Usually give it a stir and maybe a light tamp to even things back out.

Who rubs out flake and who just stuffs it in?

Tried the z-fold the first time I tried flake. Can’t remember what it was. Thinking University Flake. Anyway, couldn’t get it to stay lit. Been rubbing out ever since. Definitely can’t fold/stuff Full Virginia Flake... don’t ask.

    1 oz samples in baggies

OK. Double baggies sounds like a good idea. Same blends together. Got it. Thanks gents.

Show the cheap one you love

My very first pipe was a Dr Grabow Grand Duke bought at a local Walgreens. Just under $20 if I remember correctly. Smoked it too hot a few times and blistered that horrible clear varnish. Also developed an inch long crack on top of the stem. Almost tossed it a few times as my collection grew but...

    1 oz samples in baggies

Hey all Well TAD struck again. Just received the Boswell English Sampler consisting of six different 1 oz. samples in those little ziplock type baggies. (Thanks to GeoffC for the suggestion. These are excellent). Also received four 1oz. samples from L.J. Peretti in the same type of baggies...

    Newbie Piper here

Thanks for the reply. Funny you mention Escudo. I tried it again today but in a MM cob. Absolutely totally different experience. In a very good way. Slow sipping is the key for sure.

    Sharing My Father's Hobby

I’m very sorry to hear about your Father. Those models are absolutely beautiful. I myself am an avid model builder so I can definitely appreciate the level of skill displayed by your Father. My Father in Law passed away long before I married his daughter so I never got to meet him. He served...

I would love to get involved in the unmanned aircraft field. Certainly going to be a huge player in the near future.

Hello From Western Kentucky Tobacco Country

I used to fly helicopters all over Kentucky. Always wondered what those black barns were with all the smoke billowing out of them in the fall. Now I realize that it was Kentucky dark fired in the making.

    TAD in full effect

As a fairly new piper, I guess I’m in my “discovery” phase. Since I finally slowed down my smoking and can actually taste tobaccos, I’m wanting to try everything. Right now I’m really liking latakia/oriental/english (absolutely in love with Bengal Slices). I’ve tried a few va and va/pers but...

    TAD in full effect

Well, I’m definitely suffering a severe case of TAD. I just ordered a bunch of various tobaccos over the last few days and thought I was done... until I got here to BoB. Thanks to a couple of posts I ended up with a few 1 oz samples from L.J. Perretti: English D-7485 Tashkent London Flake...

Hah. Isn’t that the truth? Hey D.L. Are those Senior Aircrew wings on the hat in your avatar? I flew Hueys and BlackHawks for 8 years. Good times.

Boswell Sampler? Dang it... That English sampler looks great. Thanks GeoffC. I’ll be moving in with you in a couple of weeks! Or maybe Blackhorse has room for me in the doghouse?

Great... Thought I was done buying tobacco for awhile. Just ordered a bunch of 1 oz. samplers and a bunch more in my wishlist. I gotta stay off BoB for a few days or my username will become reality!

    Newbie Piper here

I was there about 6 years ago. I wasn’t aware of Tobacco Lane as I was ordering all my supplies online. However, I did purchase my very first pipe at a local Walgreens. Dr Grabow Grand Duke and a pouch of CB white. Also, I despise shopping malls but probably would’ve stopped in had I known of a...
