    More of my Tobacco Journey

Some Musings about my Tobacco Purchases In the year and a half since I started smoking a pipe (12/22), I have tried a lot of tobaccos. My tastes have changed drastically, multiple times, and I once had a horde of mason jars that rivaled my wife's canning on the basement. Started with the...

    Pipe Smoking on TV

There's a British detective show called Endeavour. Endeavour Morse is a DC in the Oxford Police; the show is a prequel series to Inspector Morse Mysteries, and covers Morse's earlier career as a young detective. His boss is DI Fred Thursday, a character that smokes a pipe. What struck me is...

    Please Explain this P&C.com Sale

Got an email from Pipes and Cigars, stating that they're having a Birthday Sale for "Stewie." 19% off the entire site, because "Stewie" is 19 years old. 1) Who the heck is Stewie? Why no picture 2) I'm happy for them, but 19 isn't old enough to smoke a pipe 3) This all makes more sense if...

Pipe For Sale Free to Good Home - $0.00 [CLAIMED]

I have this Kaywoodie 196 "Prince" that I have simply had no success in smoking well. The stinger is cut off, so you can get a pipe cleaner up the stinger end, but the lip is too narrow to get one in that way. The finish is dull, the name and "196" are barely visible. If you like to restore...

    Rattray's Accountant's Mixture

I was perusing the Tobacco Pipes website, looking at what tobaccos they had. Ran across the Accountant's Mixture, and since my wife is a CPA, I sent her a screen shot of the can. She messages me back as you see in the attached pic. Well, yes, Ma'am! Never been told to buy tobacco before, so...

New to Me Barling for Christmas

You might remember my post about my wife messaging me from the thrift store about a pipe she saw, then went back for (Dunhill Red Bark). Well, this acquisition is related, in that there was another pipe she bought and did not tell me about. This Barling, after researching, seems to be a...

    Humidifying idea

I've had tobacco dry out on me a couple of times. Instead of buying anything new to solve the problem, I tried a tea infuser. Works great, and fits in a quart mason. Get the paper towel wet enough but not drippy. Pics should be self explanatory.

    Help with Gatlin Burlier Tobacco

My daughter got me the below pictured blend when she was traveling in TN. Their website mentions one called "No Local", but this one is "Not No Local." What can anyone tell me about it, besides that it's not "No Local?"

    Regulations?

When I go to Pipes & Cigars site and look at the MATCH Presbyterian page, they have a blurb like this at the bottom: "Due to recent regulations, this blend is now only available as a Pre-Built Blend Kit for you to become a master blender right in your own home. Each kit, once blended, will...

    Wife Found Me a Pipe!

Sometimes my wife and I will go to town and shop together, get a nice lunch in, etc. Today I stayed back because I too much to get done before frosty the snowman shows up, and my progress has been delayed by surgery and natural disasters. I went and sat down with my phone a minute to take a...

    Tastes Changed Yet Again??

Some might think that I should have waited out the first year of pipe smoking before making any declarations of what certain tobaccos taste like, or make statements about what I like and don't like, but I find it therapeutic to do so, and I hope it's at least amusing to read, in an "oh, you...

    Changes for the Better

Since I started my pipe journey late last year, I have floundered around, chasing the experience. I had been rewarded enough times to take for granted that there is an experience worth chasing, so I have been persevering. Some recent changes I have made to my pipe smoking, based on suggestions...

    Pipe Stem Manufacturing

This is a question more out of curiosity than anything, but I've been wondering for some time where pipe stems are manufactured. While reading about the origins of vulcanite, I stumbled across this site: https://vermontfreehand.com/ But that's just a retailer. I can't help but wonder who...

    Pipe/Tobacco Spreadsheet

Ever since I started this hobby, I've noticed that I'll determine that a tobacco is wonderful, but then I smoke it again, probably in a different pipe, and it tastes mediocre. Gotten tired of not remembering what tasted good in what, so I made a simple spreadsheet with pipes across the top, and...

    More Trees

I think I mentioned in another thread that a big Walnut tree fell on my shed workshop and destroyed it. No sooner do I get a settlement for that, last night we had a huge storm knock over six trees onto the back of our house! No leaks as yet. I ordered two more pouches if Velvet the other day...

    My First Savinelli

I'd been planning on plunking down for either a brand new Peterson or Savinelli, soon. This came up on ebay with a bin price of $30, but I offered $25. It was listed as something like "might be a Savinelli, " and it was. Logo is clearly visible, but no model markings, probably due to the fill...

Antique Mall Finds - Six Pipes, Part II

I thought I would follow up my previous post with the results of the cleanup of the pipes. Now, there are several sites that give tips on pipe restoration, and I assure you I ignored most of their advice. I had 5 pipes to clean up, and I was in a hurry, so shortcuts were taken. Step 1...
