I tried setting up an ad campaign for the Chattanooga Pipe Show FB Event page. I set up the settings to target people over 18 that like tobacco pipes in the surrounding southeastern US. It would have targeted about 3400 people. It was flat out denied on FB for having and promoting the sale of tobacco products. This is very frustrating being told what is acceptable and not acceptable.

Although I'm not a Facebook fan to begin with, what really peeves me off is that if it had to do with alcohol sales they probably wouldn't have blinked an eye.

I sell pipes on FB and I know of a whole leaf tobacco grower on FB, Im not sure he actually sells it on there tho

I got to thinking it is probably the advertizement I don't advertize they probably leave me alone

Every petty persecution fosters a healthy spirit of defiance.  ;)

IF YOU WANT YOUR LIFE BACK, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO RECLAIM IT -- BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT ABOUT TO GIVE IT BACK TO YOU ON THEIR OWN.

BUT REMEMBER THIS :  IT'S YOURS.

NOT THEIRS.

  Agreed...my thoughts exactly!

Yeah, that was my first thought, too. Somebody didn't get paid. Or maybe just some lone wienie sitting at FB headquarters nixed it out of spite. Too many people having too much non-PC fun, don'tcha know?

Facebook has never bothered me. I'm not intrigued by it, either.

Seems to be two major kinds of folks when it comes to FB...those who loathe it, almost hysterically, and those with an addictive attachment.

Being me comes with a double-edged sword in the consciousness department--advertizement was made with certain people in mind. Very little intrigues me...bright colors, flashing images, faces, it's all like trash blowing in the wind, it's just there. I'm the guy that can notice out of date codes at the supermarket for goods at a glance but walk right past a massive display of cereal and have to ask where it is, looking like an idiot when the pimple-faced brat on his first week on the job has to take me to it. I memorize routes in the store that has exactly what I need, and I get it without much ado each and every time.

Marketing people have no interest in me, either.

Facebook is much the same. I go there, I leave a few Weissian droppings to amuse, tease, bother and provoke thought once in a while, but I'm off elsewhere soon. Why it holds such dedicated frustration or love, I still haven't figured out. It's good for talking to people like I do here, in far-off lands and for the occasional nugget of funny or truth.

I suppose news of Twitter going public as a company is gonna cause riots? <img class="emojione" alt="?" title="" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/1f937.png?v=2.2.7"/> I dunno, do you guys "tweet?" I've never used it.

I've been known to toot a bit, especially after mexican food.

Facebook is a mild amusement and a casual entertainment for me, not much more. I can hear a few wisecracks from friends, keep up with the happenings of distant relatives, and see some light advertising from retailers I actually want to hear from. That's about it. I check in a few times a week for a couple of minutes.

Hey, if you can make an IPO for your tooting, maybe you can make a buck or two. Remind me to avoid that event.

You don't want to be there for the grand opening? (Ooh, poor choice of phrasing....)

I have a facebook page for Biar Pipes and I never had any issues with them about it. I hope you get this taken care of and get your page up and running.
Best Regards
Richard

I was gonna do one called "hot naked Mexican girls" with a link to my female Chihuahua..it would all fit charge by the hit...prolly some weird freak that would go for it.

Wife shut me down (saved my ass) from further entrepreneur-ship.

One thing I like (and dislike) about the Internet is the exposure humanity gives to itself as a platform for really being human, with all the ugliness, doldrums and fascination included.

Before the Information Age put a spotlight on "weird," we all wondered, perhaps participated, but it couldn't leave whatever confines that contained it. Blessing and a curse.

Not a fan of FB. It's a tool to be sure and can misused or used wisely from a marketing perspective. Hell I just friended Russ and keep up on Trevor Talbert's insane halloween pipe he is making. There is only a handful of FB die hards that won't switch to or use other social networks and for that I stay.

I would not say I use FB too much other then the occasional troll of some acquaintances that spew failed arguments with premises full of logical fallacies. It seem for the most part in my FB network folks use it to privately promote or bitch about political and religious views.

From a marketing perspective, a lot of folks were getting a vast majority of hits on their websites from FB then Google search engine. That how it was until FB changed their model to charge you to promote. Hell even personal posts at that. Go post something and ask a follower if they saw it in their feed. Likely not unless they default to "recent posts" from the default setting.

I think your best bet is make the rounds on this and other boards such as tampandpuff, pipesmokerunleashed, etc. You will hit a bigger target market.

Besides trend, "newness" and name, what's the real difference between different social networking sites anyway? I see no reason to be a part of eleven different sites be they pipe-related or social networking.

Would I like a "better" version of Facebook? Sure. Problem one: are people I know there? If not, then no dice. I use FB tactically as I would BoB--to talk to people I actually know. Problem two: is it really useful or is it a gimmick? I've dealt with FB's gimmicks for long enough, and it hasn't gotten as irritating as MySpace (remember those days? :fpalm: ). I'm no fanboy of FB, but we've dealt with much worse across the web for decades (those of us over 30, anyway). From center-justified, sixteen-color, midi-sound file encrusted sites in the early days to, as mentioned, MySpace, where teenagers of any age could use the digital variant of spray paint and MP3s to, unhindered, "self-express." Both are painful examples. Facebook, by comparison, is pretty subdued.

There's Instagram, where the young and hip all go (I guess FB's for old people, now), and it's not as much about posting as it is a big, public photo album/fashion show/ego pedestal. No one cares about words there nearly as much--it's like a picture-menu at Denny's...not super complicated (for a reason).

Always willing to try new things--if they're not just hype. :)

I'm on facebook because of the extended family. They locked me out because "someone tried to log into my account from an unknown machine" or some such nonsense. FB tells me to re-log in with my birthday...as if I told them my real birth date! There must be a lot of maroons out there who would give out their actual birth date!!
