From the story.....
"IRVING, CA — (OfficialWire) — 03/06/09 — Newport Beach is considering banning smoking in a variety of new places, potentially including parks and outdoor dining areas. This is just the latest step in a widespread war on smoking by federal, state, and local governments—a campaign that includes massive taxes on cigarettes, advertising bans, and endless lawsuits against tobacco companies. This war is infecting America with a political disease far worse than any health risk caused by smoking; it is destroying our freedom to make our own judgments and choices.

This is certainly getting out of hand lately. We found out years ago that Prohibition wasn't a bright idea and we haven't learned the lesson, apparently. It seems the right to don a bike helmet and plastic gloves while existing in a plastic bubble trumps everything else.

Yep, same here. We experienced massive smuggling operations in the mid '90s, and they are now beginning to emerge again because of high taxation.

Here in North Carolina those who have the compulsion to control absolutely are in the process of passing a ban on smoking in all resturants in the state. At the same time they're putting 50 cents more tax per pack on cigarettes..Isn't it great to live in a society that forces those who work to pay taxes so those who drop out of school, have babies, and won't even look for work can be supported.

I should have suspected a response like that from you! He'll probably claim that it doesn't count because he doesn't inhale!
