The title already asked you. :D

I generally am into everything, from classical pieces to extreme death metal. My main go to music is reggae, mainly as it is a constant reminder of my religious view, Rastafari. (If that qualifies this for the rubber room, change it please. This is more so about the music not the religion.

Anyways, my main listens are Bob Marley, Stephen Marley and S.O.J.A.

Here's one of my favorite songs by S.O.J.A.

*I and I means You and I, but in Rastafari no man is better than the other.

Toots and the maytals, bob marley, buju banton, lucky dube, steel pulse, jimmy cliff and others have all found themselves on my turntable from time to time. Great music for relaxation and "taking off" to the tropical place in my mind. I understand the political strife that was crucial to the creation of the music, and that spoke to my angst as a teenager, but now some of the overly political stuff (I.e. peter tosh's really angry stuff) no longer speaks to me. My favorite song in the genre is "bad card" from uprising by bob.

Yeah I have a pretty good collection. Beyond the popular notables you mentioned I also a big fan of Barrington Levy and Abyssinians.

Got married 18 years ago this September on the beach in Jamaica. Love that island! Not an introvert in the bunch and very friendly folks.

That sounds AMAZING brother. Me and the missus want to go there on our honeymoon at least. Probably just get married locally though so family can make it, haha.

The list of stuff I listen to could go on for days but some of the lesser known artists I really respect are Josh Heinrichs and Skillinjah. Skillinjah is a little more modern.

I'm not big on the angry political stuff. More the spiritual and relaxing songs. If it is political it's only Bob singing it.

Youtube doesn't treat my computer too well but this works so hopefully it works for others. This is by Josh, Skillinjah and Lance Sitton. Forget about that, I got youtube working steady now, so here is the video for the audio link that I had there.

[edit] Got youtube to work, here's my favorite song by Skillinjah. Basically explaining how his life as a musician started out. WARNING It does have some mild language.

One of my favorite reggae groups is John Brown's Body!!! Their earlier stuff (early 2000's) is where it is at. Great horn section and very groovy bass line. Check em out!

Post your favorite song by them brother! That's what I started this for, to share our favorite bands and songs by them to broaden everyone's listens.

If anyone needs something to watch for their next long smoke, here's a full live performance by S.O.J.A. in Hawaii. Has alot of behind the scenes, interviews and general band hijinks aswell.

It's a good watch if you're into that sort of stuff.

Loved it, definitely gonna check out more by them.

Here's one by Josh Heinrichs, 77 Jefferson and Aston. Good lyrics on this one.

I'll be posting videos on here almost daily. So as I go through my day and find a song I feel you guys would enjoy, I'll post it here.

This is a newer CA based band that I have grown attached to. They have a new school approach on the classic reggae feel. Please excuse the language in the beginning if it offends.

And this is a band called The Expendables, who are a more experimental reggae group. They have hints of metal and punk throughout some of their songs. This is just their vocalist/guitarist doing an acoustic version of one of my favorite songs by them. He says it doesn't have a name, but they eventually named it "Wells". The band is called "The Expendables".

Had this on my playlist by The Expendables as well. I thoroughly enjoy writing, especially lyrics, so that's what I attach to most in songs. Figured it'd be a good one to share as well.

I love reggae but I dislike most ifnot any "new" reggae bands.

don't know if you know much about peter tosh, I love marley but tosh is maybe my fav. outta the original wailers.

How about the toots??

Sublime is one of my fav. bands its not really reggae but Bradley was an amazing singer songwriter?? or should I say re-writer most sublime songs aren't sublime songs

That's cool too. Streetlight Manifesto is definitely my favorite ska band.

smg - I never really got into Tosh or Toots, but they are good, no denying that. I also love sublime. Can't deny their greatness whether they redid songs or did em themself.

I haven't heard of them until now. They're pretty damn good.

How about SFH? It's more on the punk side, but they have some ska bits.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and the Reel Big Fish are probably the two that got me started into ska...but I gotta make a mention of the non-punky more 2nd wave/1st wave guys who I appreciate and respect greatly.

2nd wave
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xkW9UJn2Zgs" frameborder="0" loading="lazy" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The Pietasters
The Specials
etc.

1st wave (also, pretty much the song "Madness" named themselves after).

Desmond Dekker
etc.
