Hi! A friend of mine works as a news reporter in the middle east. Last time he was here he gave me this:

He got it together with a quite nice looking decorative pipe.

My immediate thought was a cigarette holder, but a fag wont fit it.
Anyone care to enlighten us?
If it helps, its bought in Iraq.

My guess is, it is a simple tube pipe or joint holder. Were it intended for tobacco use, the bowl would have more volume.

Here is a similar design. A tribal tube pipe, made of Catlinite, and intended for tobacco or kinnickinnick .....

My first thought was a chillum until I noticed the size. Maybe a mouthpiece for a water pipe?

I'm not sure if that's bigger or smaller than a cigarette will allow, and I'm not sure how the size of a beedi (tobacco wrapped in a tendu leaf) compares to cigarettes but I'd reckon it's a possibility though a search for beedi holders didn't turn up any pictures or the like.

Second guess would go with Dugo's suggestion that it might be a mouthpiece for a water pipe or the like.

Could be a pipe for smoking "qat" - used in Yemen and environs around nearby Africa. Similar to cocao.
