Crows are said to be one of the smartest birds.
I saw an episode of "Nature" about crows.
The crow had to perform a similar feat.
The first tool was dangling at the end of
a string. The crow reeled in the string,
used the tool to retrieve a longer tool
and then used that tool to get the treat.

I've spent some time hunting crows and they know if you're carrying a fencepost, or a shotgun.

Some things are just no brainers. Lets give crows credits when credit is due.

well it sounds like a no brainer but to discern the difference from a quarter mile away amazed me.

They have superb facial recognition apparently. And long memories.
Now that you mention that, they also did experiments
with facial recognition in that episode. They would
recognize an antagonist and sound an alarm call.
