Hello Everyone,

Have a question about the ash on top of the burning tobacco for you more experienced smokers. On my Brebbia Twin with a really deep bowl, it seems to burn too hot if I don't dump the ash about 2/3 of the way down. Is this something to do with too much ash, or is there something else that I might be overlooking here? I don't notice this problem with any of my other pipes.

Thanks for any insight you all might have.

Sure sounds like too much ash. Like it's restricting the air flow, increasing velocity. Like stoking a fire up. I usually, but not always, dump part of my ash. I don't think it's a crime. Just be sure not to dump it in an ash can with lots of dottle and used match sticks. It might get to smoldering in there.

Don't ask me how I know this.

If you need too, dump some ash. No biggie in my opinion, especially with a deep bowl.

Yep, dump in a firesafe manner then gently tamp to continue the smoke.

That never happens to me...Really... this stainless steel ashtray came black in the inside when I bought it.....

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was thinking you wanted to keep the ash in the bowl so I'd been trying not to dump it.

And those smoldering ashtrays can go for quite a while, can't they? Can get rather exciting . . .
