I've quite a few pipes where the tenon really doesn't touch the bottom of the mortise and where the draught hole is not beveled. I found this item and have been reworking my tenons.

I wish its point was a bit smaller diameter so that I could get a chamfer without any "flat-spot" as it hits the draught hole, but this is still an Engineering improvement worth the small investment.

I would think a small pocket or penknife might do the trick.

I´m having trouble imagining what you´re doing though. Beveling out the tenon? Or the draught hole at the end of the mortise? How does this help? Are you trying for zero gap between the two?

I'm working on the draught hole in the tenon. I think most of my pipes would actually need material removed from the face of either the shank or the stem - which is a little too radical for my skills. I'm just trying to easily make the most of a situation by easing the flow into the stem's hole.
