I follow this method works great. And so easy once you have the dye pens and micromesh sanding pads.

Yeah the suggestion on salvia pre-conditioning and don't fill the bowl to the rim

This is a picture from 2018 of a pipe I smoke at least once a day. An issue (with me and rimcake anyway) is that I smack ashes out of my pipe on he heel of my shoe and every now and then hunks come off in this process. It builds back up though...

I think a lot of ācharā is just soot
buildup. Pipes usually tilt downward and youāll see the buildup more on the inner rim. A lot of it could clean up with a scrub and some sort of spirit or damp ashes.

Is there any protective coating to rub into the wood on top of the bowl? Mine is starting to turn black on one side from lighting it.
