Does anyone know the history of Captain Black? How long has it been around?

I poked around for a couple hours and couldn't find anything online.
 
I believe it was the early '70s when CB superseded Borkum Riff as the pop star of the pipe tobacco world, both competing with Prince Albert for ubiquity.
