I'm watching an ebay pipe that has a genuine horn stem? Anyone who has a horn stem pipe, please advise me. Are they comfortable or too hard to enjoy? Any other issues?

I've never smoked one but have a few and restored quit a few. They are said to be very comfortable but, some of what I've seen, if your a chewer can get pretty messed up because there softer then Vulcanite.
But, without a doubt they do look nice when kept well on certain pipes.
Oh, and most the ones I have and seen are either screw on or have a metal push-pull tenon. ;)

I've got three pipes with horn stems. This is what I have experienced.

Pros: Horn is softer than any stem material I've experienced. It has a great feel between the teeth.

Cons: Horn swells and contracts with moisture and can become slightly rough as the grain swells. Horn stems are cut much thicker because they are so soft. It is also much easier to chew through.

I wouldn't bat an eye if I found a pipe I wanted with a horn stem, but I would definitely treat it a little more gently than my other pipes.
