Amen to that.

Amazingly, although David Hartley is one of the most talented and tasteful pedal steel players, he considers himself an "amateur". His almost self-effacing attitude is refreshing in a field that is often afflicted by shameless self-promotion.

John Stannard could hold his own with The Hellecasters, or any of the other legendary Telecaster players, which immediately ranks him as a Vitonian fave, onna counta I'm addicted to Teletwangin'.

And Big John has another greatly endearing trait: He dares to thumb his nose and flip the bird at the Most Sacred Covenant of Commercial Success<img class="emojione" alt="™️" title=":tm:" title=":tm:" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/2122.png?v=2.2.7"/>—namely, "Thou shalt not play instrumental music."

My reply cannot be repeated in civilized company.

To someone (like yours truly) who has always preferred the honest twang of a 'lectric geetar to the self-prepossessed whining, bitching, and moaning of lovesick crooners and wailers, those who have the balls to play instrumental music are...well, something like heroes.

Great playing!

Even if it's got a shameless crooner, it reminded me a lot of this:

Good one, Mister E!

Truth be told, my rant was admittedly...er, excessive—but it was on purpose. Call it a bit of venting at the...what—bias? ...prejudice? ...against instrumental music.

Of course I don't disparage vocal music; I've been a singer all my life. The human voice is every bit as much a musical instrument as any other tootin', twangin', or bangin' device. Not doubt it was the first melodic instrument ever used by the upright monkeys of planet Oith. Besides, without vocals, there'd be no Byrds or Beatles, and then where the hell would we be...?

But I still don't get the apparent unpopularity of instrumental music. If I were inclined to believe in conspiracies, I'd suspect an evil communist plot is at the root of it all.

But I don't, so I guess it's just the way people are.

I know what you mean. The standard "formula" almost requires vocal. It's just become "what music is" for most people. By virtue of the fact that instrumental tunes are often billed (Instrumental) on the label suggests that it's something you should know before buying. As if that might affect you decision to purchase or something. I remember the old singles records from the 60s and 70s. One side was the "original" and the other the "instrumental".

I come from a primarily classical background so I appreciate the instrumental greatly! 8)

Bingo, MisterE! How cool that you should mention that.

See, I've been recording a bunch of instrumental tunes for the past few years—some really great pieces that nevertheless will be considered "filler" if I put any of them on the same album with vocal tunes. I've had several people tell me that it will kill a vocal album commercially.

The mind stops.

So to hell with 'em. I've already decided to put all of those tunes on an all-instrumental album entitled Music From The Other Side. They can't call the whole album "filler"...well, at least not without proving they're morons. And anyone who doesn't like it can just go perform improbable biological acts on themselves...if you catch my drift.

Of course, I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Speaking of instrumental music, I find this selection to be particularly beautiful. My 80 year old dad watched this (first time ever, I guess, he had listened to anything connected with Pink Floyd!), and said it made him think of things he hadn't though of in a long time.

I really am a fan of Gilmour's guitar pickin'.

Really nice piece, Mike. Not surprising it would resonate with your dad. It touches something deep. Thanks for posting that, amigo.
