Hi Fellas,

My darling girlfriend wants me to smoke something (cherryie). Has anyone tried Mclintock Black Cherry or have a blend in mind?

Try some of boswell's aros...they seem to have a knack for making more well behaved aros than most others in my (admittedly limited) experience. The berry cobler and PA dutch treat are both cherry flavored, with dutch treat being the better of the two in my opinion.

I really have found that I don't dig the traditional aros much, but I do keep some of the dutch treat around for smoking during the (thankfully) rare visit to mother's house as I do find it at least a tolerable smoke.

About to try Sam Gawith Celtic Talisman for the first time - it's a cherry blend, supposed to be good. I will let you know what I think of it in a few days...

They may be great; I dunno.
I just have a built in prejudice;
I don't smoke anything named after food.

Not even G.L. Pease 1994 "Hot Dogs and Relish" blend, with real syrian?

:)

I've recently smoked several bowls of SG Celtic Talisman and I liked it very much. In fact, the only cherry blend I've ever liked. The aromatic does not overwhelm or bury the fine tobacco in this blend. Just air it a bit first after you open the tin.

Thanks bros,

At the shop I smoke anything I want but I try to be aroma friendly to her at the house.
Gandalf, let me know about the Celtic Talisman and Frost, I will look into the Boswell blends. I have ordered Northwoods from them before and enjoyed it.
Thanks for the ideas.

+1 for the boswell PA dutch treat,,,,a woman pleaser, and a pleasant smoke,,,

Celtic Talisman is a fine quality blend, unfortunately there is something added that both my wife and I are allergic to and don't smoke it anymore. A few other recommendations for cherry/berry flavored blends--

Peterson's University Flake, though the cherry/berry aroma doesn't come through
Treasures of Ireland Galway, my current favorite
Gawith, Hoggarth Cherry Vanilla, a bit over powering aroma for me
Gawith, Hoggarth Top Black Cherry, too much nicotine for me
(The last two are available from smoking pipes in bulk)
Middleton's Cherry Blend, not bad as some people say

Good luck in your quest,
Jim

I don't recall this one having much nicotine as it's mainly black cavendish. I do however remember it being sticky and feeling/smelling like it was soaked for months in cherry syrup...the taste was excellent and almost pure cherry sweetness, none of that bothersome tobacco flavor that gets in the way :lol!:

The sample I had came from a box pass a few years ago and was not sticky nor seemed to be soaked in cherry syrup. In fact it was pretty dry, but packed a very noticeable nicotine whallop. Of course someone may have chipped some of G&H's cherry rope and placed it in the box pass to whack some unsuspecting participant for fun.

Jim

If its the smell that your trying to please company with I think you may like Gramercy Park by Pipeworks & Wilke .. Not only a very smooth smoke but my wife does not complain about the smell if she rides with me traveling with my pipe.. Just saying...

Tell her to smoke it.

Cant help here brother, I stay away from that kind of aro. If you want try some of the Borkum Riff blends. Cherry and Vanilla is a great tinned baccy if that is what floats your boat!!

This is uncharted water for me also. When I want to smoke an aromatic, I stick with Peterson. I appreciate all of your thoughts and suggestions and may order a tin or two and see how it goes.

I second this but I prefer the boswell aromatics, though the Dutch Treat is not really a cherry flavor but more a baked good flavor with perhaps some fruit note. If your girlfriend really meant cherry go with the Celtic Talisman but if she meant sweet I would really go with the Dutch Treat or any of the Boswell Aromatics I have twelve of them and they were all great.

Watch City Cigar's - Bada-Bing is quite nice. It also has a bit of perique to make it more interesting than your standard aromatic.
