I have to admit, the alcohol bath was quite surprising. I have heard of and actually done the booze/salt treatment for refreshing, but this is the first I have seen of a complete extended dunking for restoration.

Thanks DnB.  It is bit extream, but helps when you plan to refinish the pipe because the alcohol does a good job of stripping the finish.  One word of caution, it will usually make a crack worse, so if there is even a hint of a crack on the stummel don't do it.  DAMHIKT
