I have a stubborn meer that I have had for many years. The problem is poor draw.

The stem is part of the issue - to truly clear it, is it advisable to unscrew the threaded insert? Or is that asking for trouble?

Just putting pipecleaners in there does not seem enough as there seem to be nooks and crannies in there - not just one bore like a briar stem.

Then there is the shank and bowl. Is it advisable to use solvent (alcohol) in the chank? Will that harm things?

Lots help here and in books on care of wood pipes, but not as much for meerschaum. I did try a search and didn't find much.

Isn't there a way to use a miltary type stem so that the best of both worlds is possible.

Thanks folks!

Pete

send it to RonniB at Nightowl Pipe repair and get it "blueprinted", you won't regret it.
