I do have some of those hybrid pipes!! :shock:
And they have been good smokers for many years. However the general consensus seems to be that they are a compromise of not being the best of a meerschaum nor the best of a briar. Which makes sense IMO but they still smoke well and were pretty much a novelty of the 1950's.
Kaywoodie made some really nice ones and they were not considered low grade pipes commanding pretty good $$.

I have a couple of these - both Africobs. They were cheap as chips to buy on fleabay, are absolutely beautiful aesthetically, and simply stunning flake pipes.
So good are they, that if I get the opportunity to pick up more, I will - even though I don't really need 'em.
