I'm really aching to get my first smokable meerschaum. I've seen several that I'm considering and I love the idea of it colouring over time. I think they look beautiful.

Now, the question is, do I need to continue to wax my meerschaum pipe as time goes on? I know they're usually coated with beeswax to help protect and aid in colouring, but do I need to re-coat the pipe to ensure that it stays protected and continues to colour well? If so, where can I get the "right" stuff, short of raiding a bee's nest?

Here is a link to beeswax blocks on ebay, as well as a couple informative videos.....

Jason's videos are so cool. :D

I stole his beeswax-in-an-empty-lip-balm-dispenser technique with pride.

I've been smoking a meer since I got my first, back around 1975 ( I now have 5) and I've never applied any extra wax and they have smoked and colored well to my liking. Guess you could but for me, that's abit bordering on OCD

After reading this thread & viewing the vids, I think I may be more confused!
