Got the winning bid on an estate Savinelli Non Pareil 9408 last night. Anyone have any experience with one of these? It looks in great shape from the pics, and I got it for a song compared to buying new.

Are we talking about one of those beautiful Savinelli 9408 with that horn-mount? Maybe you can post a link to that auction or a picture of that pipe?

All I can personally say about this specific Savinelli is, that I unfortunately don´t own one myself. But in my opinion it´s one of the most beautiful Savinelli pipes ever made. A perfect example for italian stile.

I still nearly can´t believe, that the German Department of Health prohibited horn in relation with foodstuff a couple of years ago - and that ban effects the use of horn related to pipes as well. But luckily meanwhile most pipemakers don´t really seem to care about it.

I´m looking foreward to see your Savinelli 9408.

I have no experience of this pipe but I can tell you ANY and EVERY Savinelli is a good pipe. I adore them and the ones I've got are super smokers.

Harlock that is almost the same model pipe in the picture you posted, horn mount and all. I won the auction for $35.00, wish I could find deals like that all the time!

Congrats on a super bargain. Savinelli Non Pareil's are fine pipes that smoke great with superb Italian artistry.

Lucite, and unfortunately, I sold that one a while back. Not because it was a bad pipe, I just needed money...for more pipes!
 
PS : Non Pareils are beautiful pipes, IMHO.

But they dropped using horn in the early 1980s in a cost-cutting move to stay abreast of inflation.

The horn itself wasn't expensive, but pressing & shaping it was labor-inten$ive so they went with using acrylic instead. Which is actually a better material for that application. Much better.
