Peterson, for sure, has one of the worst bowl coatings. It usually ends with a mouthful of gooey carbonized juice.Brewdude":lq2xaws6 said:Don't like a bowl coating myself. In fact I've had Coastie3202 (John) remove them from several pipes recently, which included mostly Pete's.
Had one really discouraging experience with a new Pete which had a bowl coating, and that was the tipping point for me.
I understand why pipe factories like Peterson include this as a SOP. However I like to break in the pipe according to my SOP's!!
Cheers,
RR
Sand it off with a dremel followed by micromesh. That's what Coastie3202 (John) did with mine and it was just the ticket!gravel":i5fq30fs said:I have had only one negative experience with a bowl coating. It was a Peterson. The first smoke was terrible. I worked at removing some of the coating but their coating is firmly in place. A second smoke showed some improvement, but still tasted bad. I gave up and stored the pipe. After two years I tried the pipe in question again and it was noticeably better.
I still don't reach for it. :-/
I would have to aree with you COMEPLETY on this Bull. I'm glad someone stated this !! :twisted:Bullwinkle":btamzg59 said:I'll bet in a blind test very few could tell which bowl was coated and which wasn't. I think it's more of a head game with some... same as the Pete horror stories. just because you read it on the internet doesn't make it true but if you read it enough you start to believe it.
This year I purchased 3 Peterson pipes. Out of the three I have one. The other two were drilled poorly. The first one was a '14 St Patrick's day pipe, shape 107 (returned). The second is an Irish Made Army shape 120 (kept). And the third Pete was an Irish Made Army shape 69 (returned). The 69 shape is the one that I still have the pics showing the bad drilling. If you care to see 'em I'll post 'em.Bullwinkle":fptytq8y said:on another forum you get the guys that are constantly pounding on the Pete's.. but, when pushed come to find out they don't even own a Pete. but, they know a guy who knows a guy who's brother had a bad Pete.
