hello , i would like to know if any member knows about this revolver brand. specific a us police or military 23813 , probably from the first decade of 20 century. it belonged to a grandfather and i know nothing of guns. any information (rarity, aprx. price, etc.) may be helpfull.  thank you.

Pictures might help. Also caliber and any other markings on the firearm.

it is 38 cal , no other numbers , it have engraved US on the grip. no pictures available. hope that helps.

Its value is going to be highly dependent on its condition. I have a hunch that it's not particularly rare, but you should write the factory with all the info and pics you can assemble, and hope they can determine its identity and send you a "factory letter," which they will charge you for. Otherwise, you may get rooked by someone if you decide to sell. Don't refinish it or anything yet.

Smith & Wesson in Springfield, MA can help with identifying your pistol.
They do history checks via Serial number. However, they are backlogged with current requests. From their site:

"Due to the overwhelming success for Smith & Wesson history letters the current wait time is 4 to 5 months. It has always been the goal of Smith & Wesson to provide its Customers with service in a timely manner. Because of the high demand and extended lead time we are temporarily suspending the acceptance of any new requests so that we may concentrate on the current backlog.

Please contact us after December 31, 2015 for further information and updates".

There are a couple of "forums" for fans of S&W revolvers. If you join and post images of the revolver the folks there will be able to provide you with some good information.
