Smokey Pipe Stem Part II - A DEVASTATING BLOW!

Had an beautiful pipe going.  Stem was working out great!



Sanding was going GREAT!  I thought, "This is going to be a beautiful pipe..."  My pour of the resin came out great.  Just how I wanted.  The black was really translucent and the white was solid.  



Smoke was abounding throughout the blank.   Sanding it into a stem, I was even more excited about how it was going to come out.



Then...  As I went to grab a finer grit of sand paper...  and my hand (arm) was on its way back...  this happened....  The only word that came out of my mouth started with a VERY LARGE  capital "F"...



Luckily, I got three blanks that are stem size out of the resin pour.  That means I have two more tries to make the pipe without F'ing it up!

By the way, the wood is not Briar (as you can easily see).  If you are interested, it is Jobillo.  Made this pipe out of it last year and is smokes great.

So gutted chap, had to do a new stem for a finished stummel myself yesterday as the first one snapped when I dropped the pipe during buffing, I too uttered the 'F' word at great volume.

Yeah, this really sucked. I was just at the point of starting the fine sanding. Oh well. I'll do a new stem tomorrow. Sucks that 5 hours were spent for a disaster.

I know exactly how you feel, I've done the same thing turning a stem on the lathe just when I'm finished or near it I try to take a little too much off at once or I crank the compound the wrong direction and "SNAP!" And that same word you said echo's my shop and I swear literally you can hear me a mile away. Then I just shut everything down and walk away cussing myself and continue the next day.
