Cut a new stem today and finished up the pipe.  The wood is Jobillo, the color is Fiebings Mahogany.  













 
I like the color of that stem, and a good polish on it too.

I would have to say its about just as heavy as briar but a tad softer. As far as smoking, I think its just fine. I've smoked several bowls out of the other pipe I made with it and it is fine. Doesn't get overly hot. No adverse flavor from the wood that I notice.
