I have at least one new production Caminetto that has this. You can also see a picture here (scroll down to Caminetto, the upper right picture).

Mine, for example, says:
52 7
2 02

I'm guessing one of them, probably the 52, is the shape number, but can anyone confirm or give any info?

From here: http://groups.google.com/group/alt.smokers.pipes/browse_thread/thread/57d2860769603efc/39e28398d469fcf8

An e-mail reference from 2001, I can't vouch for the info though since I don't know anything about the guy who wrote it or about Caminettos. This was an answer to a similar questions as yours with regards to a pipe marked 54, 6, 2, 01 (arranged in the four) :

"the quadrant is no longer in use but the basics of grading are always the
same.

54 should be the shape #
6 is the finish (I guess your pipe is blasted or maybe rustic)
2 the serie (2 was the serie of classic shapes)
01 is first year of the new caminetto = 1986 "

So with your pipe, the 52 is the shape number, the 7 is the finish, the 2 is the series and the 02 indicates that is was from the 2nd year of new production caminetto, i.e. 1987 I think.

Thanks a lot. I had searched quite a bit but didn't find those pages. Most helpful!

Don't worry, I can never find stuff when I am looking for it either. Must be some kinda murphy's law variant or something. Glad I could be of assistance :D
