That's an ass-kicking little gun. I may end up with one, yet. I love the 45/70. I've had two or three. Had a .458x2" American for awhile. Have you had a chance to see what it does on paper at 100 yards? Had a Ruger no. 1 that could eat paper up at that range. All you need, now, is a 45/70 wheel gun to go with it.

I had just mounted the scope when I took the picture
I haven't been able to sight it in, or take it to a range just yet, but very soon! I'm really excited to see how Hornady LeveRevolutions handle 100 yards

Here are some loads that weren't around when I had my 45/70's. They should be fun. Especially that Buffalo Bore.

Bullet Charge / Powder Velocity
Barnes 300X 48 H322 1652
GS Custom 300FN 60 AA2015 2039
North Fork 350GRS 54 AA2015 1841
Remington 300 JHP 46.5 AA2015 1516
Belt Mountain 400 Punch 48 AA2015 1756
Buffalo Bore 300 JFN Factory Load 2357
Hornady 325 LEVERevolution Factory Load 1787

The 325gr. FTX LeveRevolutions group one inch (smallest) to 1.625 (largest) @ 100 yds in mine (scoped). Five round groups, eight targets in varying wind, (0 - 20 mph approx), 20 degrees, sunny, sandbags. Very happy to say the least,,,

Definitely a beauty!!!

Thanks for posting because I was not familiar with the XS rail mount. That sits nice and low on the receiver and gives plenty of eye relief too!

As a side note, my favorite powder for 45-70 was Reloader 7. It gave me the highest velocities and accuracy.

I'd love to have one of those, it's a really sweet lookin lever action. One of my first hunting rifles was a Marlin 444, and I loved the way it carried thru the woods.

Marlin makes great guns in my opinion, look at the pic to see why. My buddy has one of those and it's so much fun to shoot, especially as a HUGE lever action fan like myself. I think I may have to buy myself another rifle in the near future, possibly a Uberti 1873... Until then i guess I'm happy to just drool.
