I didn't see a thread talking specifically about knives...at least not one like the other "category" threads...

So, I have carried a couple SOG knives in the past, but I don't like the "tacticool" black plastic knives, they just scream "teenager trying to be cool and tough" or some "mall ninja." So I had an all Stainless SOG Slim Jim tanto blade (no black plastic), but it was too narrow for my big hands. I also have a SOG Fielder like this:
sog_ff-30.png

(again, no black plastic)...

Currently, however, I'm carrying a Dan Koster Fixed Blade Scout in 3v steel, in a pocket holster...

The leather pocket sheath is slightly larger than most front pocket wallets, but it's flat. And, after my folders popped open in my pocket a couple times and cut my thumb, I'm a bit annoyed with the folders (stupid spring assist)...

So, what knives do you have? What do you carry? What have you made? (i know there are some threads around for that too).

I'm also waiting on a Mini Appalachia from JK Handmade knives (via RGrizzle Leather), that will look something like this:

Much as I like knives of all kinds, the Victorinox tinker is the only one I never regret carrying or bothering with. This, from someone quite susceptible to KAD, having just purchased a Laguiole, thanks to another recent thread on this site. Thanks, guys.

My daily used to be a Microtech LCC Lightfoot D/A with the carbon fiber scales...in a fit of stupidity I sold that knife. Still kick myself for that to this day. Currently it's a black Kershaw Leek.

I carry a CRKT Carson M21-14SFG. It is primarily a weapon for military personnel but I use it for all sorts of things. I also carry a R-TAK ll by Ontario Knives. It is 10 3/4” long. That is the one I camp and hike with.

fits perfectly in the coin pocket of a pair of jeans.

Most my life I just carried Schrade "Old Timer",nowadays I carry a single blade Case 31048 CV in the back pocket. No fancy shamcy Ninja/tactical stuff for me.

I've carried this for about five years. My hunting knife is a Tom Cute 3 1/2 inch drop point.

nontraditionalpocketknives2.jpg

I carry one of two knives every day depending on how I'm dressed:

My "less fancy" knife is a black kershaw leek
z_KS-1660CKT.jpg

My "more fancy" knife is a Lone Wolf Ridge Top
BEN40020-100-2.jpg

When camping/ hunting/ hiking I carry a Swiss Army knife and a Benchmade Bushcrafter
bm_162.jpg

My grandfather carried one and so do I. I don't carry it all the time because a) I don't always need a knife and b) it's juuuuust big enough that it might be a little intimidating should I take it out in the office, but any time I'm in the woods it's with me.

Can't beat the classics. And if you can, I don't care.

Agree re: "tacticool" knives. Lame.

I do also enjoy Svord peasant knives:

post-103-0-22215800-1306221956.jpg

Cheap enough that if they get lost in the woods it doesn't really matter.

I would like to try a Mora as they're supposed to be quite good, and also quite cheap:

But for a larger knife, I still gotta go with the classic:

Buck_119_Hunting_Knife1.jpg

It does get pretty slippery when covered with blood, which usually isn't an issue with me as I don't hunt, but boy can gutting a big ol' salmon get sloppy. There's a lot of blood in those suckers.

Been carring this original leatherman for probably 27 years now. It went missing once for about 8 months but found it's way back when cleaning out a cupboard in the holiday trailer the next spring.

Along with it I usually carry either the first stainless knife w/sheep horn or the first damascus knife w/bacote that I ever made.

"That's not a Knife, This is a Knife."

Although not something I'd carry every day here's a knife I'm especially proud of. Inspired by Crocidile Dun Dee.
It was at that time the 13th knife I made.

I forged it out of old Ski-doo springs (5160) that was sitting in the neighbours junk pile, used band saw blades from a saw mill (L6) with a center layer of new O1 tool steel. It is 13 3/8" overall w/8 1/2" blade. Although it was a fun project I'd never use such rusted up material to start with again as I wasted more time and money in sanding belts cleaning it up than what the new 5160 or L6 material would of cost. The handle & guard were made from 1/2" X 1 1/4" brass bar stock with an 1/8" brass spacer between the Ebony & Bacote. The sheath was made with Wicket & Craig English Briddle leather.

The whole project with case took approx. 55-60 hrs.

Nathan I really like the looks of this Mini Appalachian knife. It looks quite similar to one 7" I have drawn out that I'd like to make out of used farrier rasps. My daughters boyfriend is a farrier and goes through a rasp a week so I'd have an endless supply at the snails pace it takes me to build one. When he discards them they still look brand new when cleaned. I'll post some pic's of one when I get caught up with some other on the go projects.

I typically rotate what knives I carry every now and then, but I have a couple that I tend to always fall back to. I really like my CRKT M21-14, and I've recently picked up a Joe Pardue Utilitac II, which is an Ontario blade. I find both to be very good knives, especially since I've had the CRKT for going on six years and I've only ever had to replace the pocket clip once.

A small pocket knife is all I keep with me everyday. Usually just an old Utica or my trusty lil' Opinel 5.

Please do! Very cool. Someday I'll give making a knife a try.
