I purchased a Kaywoodie "Flame Grain" shape 22 estate pipe. It is a 3 hole stinger. The finish is very dull and dry at the moment and it looked and smelled like it sat in a box in the garage for the past 30 years or more.
I just spent the better part of this evening cleaning the stem with Oxyclean, alcohol and Flitz and it now looks magnificent. Now I'm working on the bowl with alcohol and cotton balls. This is the first time I've tried restoring a pipe and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
So when did Kaywoodie become a "lesser" pipe? I know the ones made in the 1930's and before are held in high regard. Would this one have been considered a lesser pipe or drugstore pipe?
