Hi! Me and a friend are going on a road trip in the south-ish US this June. Only doing carry on for the trip over so trying to travel as lightly as possible on the inbound anyway... We are landing at FLL and driving to New Orleans and on to ?? don't really know yet, the Grand Canyon for sure. Any places to stop for some good tobacco and/or pipes on the road? Tobacco is so much cheaper over there so will probably buy a lot. Have family over there so i can ship to them and collect there, but i prefer to do hands on deals with pipes at least.

I am grateful for all and any advice!

Thanks
Ole

Ole, if you make it thru Birmingham Alabama, this pipe and cigar store is a must. Very nice selection of pipes, pipe tobacco, and cigars. Located close to I-65 near the downtown Birmingham area, but easy to get in and out of town fairly quickly if you hit it during non rush hour time frame.

If you swing through Houston, there is the Briar Shoppe. Great place to sit, smoke, and just enjoy. They have a decent selection, though the prices are a tad bit higher than online. I still support them when I can. We don't have many B&M's around here. Also, hit me up if you come through. Im down that way alot.

If in Jackson, Mississippi I've heard good things about The Country Squire. I have some friends who consider it their home away from home.

If you pass through the home of Wal-Mart (Bentonville, Arkansas) Romeo's Uptown seems to be the place to stop.

The one you will most likely come close into contact with, especially if you're heading west toward Texas is the Briary in Birmingham. It is a GREAT shop that sells pretty much all of the notorious American blends spoken highly of, even Esoterica if you're lucky.

Ole, I heartily recommend The Briary in Birmingham, Alabama and the Briar Shoppe in Houston, Texas. The Briar Shoppe is situated in an area called "Rice Village," close to Rice University. There are several good restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. One of my favorites is "The Gingerman." It's a short distance from the Briar Shoppe, has a huge selection of tap and bottled beer (plus wine and some spirits); plus you can sit in the far back or in the sitting area out front and smoke!!!! Let us know your plans; I might even be in Houston while you're there!! FTRPLT

If you get up to Dallas, Texas try stopping in at the Edward's off Preston Rd. in far N. Dallas. Last I knew they were at :

338 Spanish Vlg, Dallas,TX 75248
(972) 774-1655

Thanks for all the information! I just found out our first family visit is in Jackson, so The Country Squire will probably be the best bet.

I hope your trip is going well, Olle! There has been some sort of mix-up with the package I sent you. Did you get my PM? Please get back to me soon so I know where to send it.

I've lived 45 minutes from Birmingham my entire life and have never heard of this place. I must check it out!

Skip Elliott has one of the finest pipe inventories you will find in a retail establishment. Here is a link to a Pipes and Tobaccos Magazine article, that profiles the shop.
