    Cake Problem

I purchased a kaywoodie new with a high drawhole. I found that for a quick patch, ash mixed with water (not honey, since the water dries out fast and doesn't melt) works really well. Either way, it sounds like the briar is sound and you should be good to go. If the cake hole is in the heel, you...

    Local Blends

Downtown there's LJ Peretti, from whom I sampled my first latakia blend, Midnight. It was a little one-dimentional, but opened up the door to english styles for me. I'm mostly ambivalent toward them and prever VAs and VAPers. Their Scottish Flake, however, was superb. Thick, black, and oily, and...

    On cellaring a pound

In another thread I started, H&H Anniversary Kake was recommended to me, so I put in a small bit with an order of tins. I loved this stuff so much, that I bought a whole pound for under $30. Now, the question is, what do I do with it? It arrived two days ago, and I stuck it in a very large...

    C&D Interlude

I decided this morning to give it a little drying time and another shot. Much, much better. I'm getting lots of toasted sorts of flavor, and less, for a lack of a better phrase, hot flavors. We'll see if it's a keeper once I finish the tin.

Beverages That Work Well With the Pipe?

Tried grapefruit juice...that was a mistake. So far, I'm a fan of english breakfast or Prince of Wales tea with a splash of soymilk, or, as I'm doing at the moment, straight chocolate soymilk. Mostly I smoke virginias and VaPer blends, and haven't actually tried drinking with a latakia blend....yet.

    Cake Maintenance Method?

I was tempted to do this when I first started, but then I really learned not to bother it. My cakes haven't ever really turned out lumpy since it all gets sorted out as I continue to smoke, I find. Anecdote: When I first got my Kirsten, I smoked it so much that I built up a dangerously thick...

    C&D Interlude

I've been almost exclusively a Va smoker for the last year or so. Definitely a good question though, I should have specified! However, to be fair, this is the first all-red VA I've had.

    C&D Interlude

My order I posted about came in last week, and I've been thoroughly enjoying H&H Anniversary Kake (enough to order another pound of it) while debating which of the tins to crack open first. After a wee nip of the creature I decided on the 6 month old tin of Interlude, and have been attempting to...

    Smoking Outdoors

It was -30º with windchill yesterday! I pity you, good sir. I did have this problem in years past here, living in nonsmoking buildings, and found that alleyways, especially where buildings have protrusions to block the wind, work especially well. As do walks in dense parks. As for tobacco, I'm...

When you finish a great bowl....

As a kirsten owner and student, I find myself going back-to-back (to-back) with the pipe fairly frequently, but usually that perfect smoke isn't followed with another, sadly.

    Interesting Peterson on Ebay today.

I see that first part a lot. It defies logic to assemble a pipe that way...

    Looking for another VaPer

My order that went in wednesday came! Unfortunately, my sinuses are completely blocked, so it's going to be a little while until I sample these. If the sticker on the bottom of the C&D/Pease tins are date codes, that means I have an October tin of Fillmore and a May tin of Interlude, so the...

    Looking for another VaPer

Thanks for the recommendations. Since I'm looking for pure VaPers in varying degrees, I opted not for Silver Flake (I have a sensitivity to burley) nor the oriental blends. I put in an order of H&H Anniversary Kake, Solani 633, and Fillmore, and threw in a tin of C&D Interlude for good measure...

    Howdy from Tacoma!

Thank you all for the welcome! I'll be sure to post some photos here and there. Surprisingly (or not), I've amassed a small collection of portraits of my fellow pipe-smoking friends, and at long last have one of myself now. Natch- yep, they're still CNC'd up in Ballard, though I've not been to...

    Looking for another VaPer

Morning all, I'm considering putting in another small order from Pipes and Cigars and hitting up Peretti's this week, and am looking to try a few new blends. At the moment, I'm debating Escudo, Fillmore, and Kajun Kake, which all have varying degrees of perique. The first is classic and I've yet...
