    My C & D adventure

Howdy everyone. Thanks for the well-wishes. I have two new C&D tins coming my way: Billy Budd and Old Joe Krantz. I am a little frightened of Billy Budd. It is a latakia-heavy blend. I enjoy latakia, but so far only as a seasoning tobacco--i.e., lightly applied. We'll see how it goes. Anyway...

    My C & D adventure

I have decided, entirely for the hell of it, to try and smoke every blend C & D produces. I was looking online the other day at a list of all their blends and was truly flabbergasted. They have between 41 million and 43 million different offerings, all of them, I am positive, completely...

    Howdy from Wyoming

Hello neighbor. I'm next door in SoDak :) Also, prefer the cob and smoke them exclusively. Missouri Meerschaum General...go big or go home. Welcome!

    Troost pipe tobacco attracts hornets.

I'm a quite certain at this point that hornets are attracted to the smell of some burning pipe tobacco. The episode with the Troost was repeated. It isn't like they're trying to get a hit off the pipe or anything, but the smell does make them curious. By the way, the Troost is quite delicious...

    POLL: Do you smoke cigarettes?

Man, you nailed it. Cigarette tobacco isn't really tobacco. It's tobacco in the same way Velveeta is cheese. It's a product "derived" from tobacco, but not tobacco. Some tell me American Spirits are natural, but anyhoo. I'm a tobacco smoker, not a cigarette smoker.

    Troost pipe tobacco attracts hornets.

Yeah....lighter, tamper, and Raid :) The odd thing was I was sitting on the step at first, then moved over by the fence when they came around. They found me again! The fact that they hunted me down across the yard leads me to believe it was the Troost :)

    Troost pipe tobacco attracts hornets.

Ha, no story....I was just out in the yard smoking a bowl of Troost. Thoroughly enjoying myself. For once, it wasn't over a hundred degrees. Then one, then two, then 6 hornets came a buzzing around me. It was quite disconcerting. Never had that happen before when smoking a pipe. Admittedly, I'm...

    Clay tobacco pipes

Can a guy buy himself a decent, real clay pipe for smoking these days? Looking around they all seem be commemorative, reproductions, or decorative items...in other words, not exactly for smoking. I have read that the clay needs to be handled or prepared in a special way for a real smoker.... Mike

Experiences with PS Natural Dutch Cavendish?

Posted this in the wrong spot yesterday, but deleted it. Anyways...just wondering your opinions on this if you've tried it. Looking for a bulk dutch-style cavendish for affordability. I thoroughly enjoy Sail Natural...spicy, delicately sweet, etc. so am looking along those lines. Thanks, Mike

    Actors and tobacco

Interesting. I was just wondering this the other day, especially watching that scene in Fellowship where Gandalf and Bilbo are sitting outside smoking. Bilbo blows a ring and Gandalf a sailship (he IS a wizard). The creator Tolkein was a pipester and smoked Player's Navy Cut and Blue Capstan, so...

Whats your pairing drink with tobacco?

The most common thing I drink is iced green tea (sencha and gyokuro), so find myself most often with a pipeful and that. It's a nice combo, but really green tea is too delicate to stand up to any pipe tobacco in my experience and the subtle flavor is lost. It becomes watery. Which is fine...I...

Just got back from my local Tinder Box

It's pretty disheartening, but I ALWAYS get excited about B&Ms, even though I am always, always disappointed. None of them have an interest in cornering their local pipe smokers market with a good selection and decent prices. The pipe smokers market in any given location is, what, five dudes...

Just got back from my local Tinder Box

Wouldn't it be nice if we pipe smokers weren't just an afterthought in brick-n-mortar tobacco cigar shops? Jeez. What a depressing experience. I'm new to this town and like everywhere else, you basically have little or no selection of pipe tobaccos you can get without using the internet. So I...

    Children of the Corn (Cob)

I would disagree. I've always cleaned my cobs regularly, previously with alcohol. Cobs are absorbent and the use of alcohol on them shortened their life, i.e., made them taste nasty...especially when using vodka. The non-alcohol elements of the vodka, which in 40 proof, is more than half, got...
