    Mead anyone?

I make it from time to time - usually a few litres a year from a hive of a family member. It's really easy to make (the trick is to keep fermentation temperature low), but unfortunately not to my taste. Flavoured the last batch with fennel which was quite interesting. Any thoughts on other...

    Dunhill 60s Root

There is nothing quite like a vintage Dunhill. I admire your discerning taste! Well done. 14 dunnies? When will number 15 arrive?

    Peterson Irish Oak, interesting VAper!

Thanks Piet. I'm on the road a lot selling corks and screwcaps for my new business so being online is a bit of a luxury at the moment (just like getting a paycheque). Dean I am Alan (RobT - GlobalAlan - same guy) See you Saturday. Oh and you are most welcome to bring some of that aged Irish Oak...

    Peterson Irish Oak, interesting VAper!

Thanks Piet. I opened a 'fresh tin' last week - I didn't pick up the sweetness as you describe from your cellared tin - perhaps time made a significant change to it. Still a good backy in my book, I'll have to find the patience to start cellaring properly..

    A Pipe Question

That packing method works really well for me too. I think it's the same as the 'Frank Pack' method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJP0JaNRw6Q He goes through the process quite laboriously - very German... but the explanation is excellent.

    My Pipe Collection

My favourite is the Junior Noce - but I would say no to any of the others. I wish I was more discerning when I started buying pipes - got lots of ugly ones....

Must be a very special Stanwell at that price...

I thought we called them churchwardens - anyone heard of a 'long pipe'?

    Any port drinkers out there?

Being on a different continent, the brands will be different, but in a nutshell: The best come from Portugal (and you get what you pay for) All are fortified wines (meaning they are strengthened with brandy during the production process), and most are sweet. I would suggest going for a Ruby, LBV...

    What are you smoking?

Thanks blue. I seem to hit my internet cap fairly regulary, so consistency is not easy for me. Where abouts in Slaapstad do you stay. (I'm in Durbanville)

What baccy do you use to break in your pipe?

I'm with Mike on this one. If I don't know what I plan on smoking in a new pipe, I stick to an unscented/unflavoured Virginia. Aparently it builds the best cake?
