If your smoke old codger's blends, I am curious if you had to pick one to be your favorite which would it be, Prince Albert, Carter Hall, Half and Half, or Sir Walter Raleigh, and why? Also, while I'm at it if you had to choose would it be Borkum Riff, or Captain Black and which blend would you smoke? I smoke mainly drug store blends and am just curious what other old codgers prefer.

bear I love Borkum Riff was my first try of pipe smoking a long time ago, Captain Black love it. Carter Hall, never tryed it even though I have had a jar for a year + or so. I will receive a 2nd jar of carter hall in the next few days so i will let you know.
bear I actualy smoke backwoods red and enjoy it in pipe and ryo.

Prince Albert for me, although I haven't tried any of the others except CH. As to why, I guess it would consistency and knowing what to expect. It did change after it started being produced in the Dominican Republic. My real top codger is Granger.

I forgot about Granger. Used to smoke it all the time but after the local JR's stopped carrying it I haven't tried it in a long time. thanks for the riminder.

I would go with SWR. I like the casing & taste, the cut and find it has a nice level of Lady N.
I do like Borkum Riff Original, I buy it fairly regularly. Tastes great, the room note is not strong. The Captain Black are too mild to my liking.

I like SWR but Carter Hall is less expensive. Prince Albert is okay at best, I think of it as a RYO. Half & Half, might as well smoke hay chaff off the barn floor after you let the cows back out. Then a lot of old timers used to smoke Half & Half. Now I'm the old timer, when did that happen?o_O

That reminds me that some Codger blends were also intended for Ryo. Granger is not one of these-it is for pipes.

Probably Captain Black but after a few bowls I’d quit and smoke cigars.

Captain Black and Half and Half are my two favorite codger blends. They're both sweet in different ways, like having a pastry (captain black ) versus some gummy bears (half and half). If it was summertime and I had to pick one, it would be half and half. Right now if I had to pick one, it would be Captain Black.
