    Balkan v. English

    English refers to the place where the style originates, Balkan to the place some of the distinctive leaves come from. No clear distinction really. To confuse things a little more, a shop where I get a nice English blend labels their packages "Baltic".  :x

    Anyone here have any experience dealing with William's Estate Briar Pipes in Denmark?  Site shows hundreds of nice looking new and second hand pipes, plus several lines of wool socks hand-knit by William's wife Nille! Looks interesting— I'd be glad to hear from any past customers...

    I was a sometime customer there from 1965 or so.  An excellent shop, well stocked and very welcoming, with a real old-world atmosphere and a fine range of house blends-- my favourite was their Red Lion. I still use a Savinelli Capri I bought there in '68 or so. I seem to remember the business...

    I can update this thread with the news that Grant's closed last October 1st (just as I was driving south to San Francisco). I had a nice visit there about a year ago, and enjoyed a pouch of one of their house blends. Can anyone here recommend another shop in downtown S. F. or the East Bay? Ages...
