    Dual Bore Pipe?

I've seen references to dual bore pipes but, other than guessing at what it could mean, I'm in the dark. My guess is two bores from the bowel to the mouth piece but I can see no advantage in this and the mechanics of manufacture would seem difficult. Can someone enlighten me, please? Brian

    Pipe finish 'bubbling'

Pipe is an Adsorba 217, not an expensive pipe but one I enjoy smoking. In a couple of spots, the finish is bubbling, almost as if paint stripper had been applied to it. The pipe is ' rested' between smokes, at least 24 hours. It isn't over caked, just a light layer. No sign of burning in the...

How to get an hour from 3g of tobacco?

I've been watching some of the pipe smoking competitions and confess to being impressed by the times people "squeeze" from 3g of tobacco. I don't pretend to be an expert on the competition rules so, if I have this incorrect be gentle, but it seems the basic idea is to see how long you can make...

    Zippo Tip

I appreciate that some frown on using a lighter to light a pipe but, for those like myself who like a trusty Zippo, here is something to prolong time between refuelling. I've always been frustrated by the way Zippos seem to allow fuel to evaporate when not in use and I've heard of people using...

Where do I recommend a shop to visit?

I'd like to recommend a shop in the UK which visitors from the USA may care to visit. I have no connection with the shop, other than having made a small purchase (under $50) and received excellent service and advice. They do not know I an making the recommendation. Such shops are rare in the...

    Pipe fiters.

I was lucky enough to be picking out a new pipe as a birthday present from my wife, and in the process was told be the retailer that 9 mm filters only remove water ( not tar or nicotine) from the smoke. This is a bit of a surprise to me but, being new to the game, I am happy to learn. Want do...

    Why Cigar ash for 'mud'

Having just used pipe mud for the first time (and waiting for it to cure), I am curious why it should be made with cigar ash. Does the nature of the ash between pipe. cigar, and cigarette tobacco vary so much in its mudding characteristics? What gives rise to the difference, the tobacco leaf...

    Corn Cob side burn out?

I am new to Corn Cobs, which are not as common in the UK the US so this question may seem dumb. I've smoked my Cob ( a Legend) about 10 times and now one side is showing signs of burning through. No big deal, they are not expensive, but I assume this isn't normal. There is a reasonable 'cake'...

    Tobacco prices in different countries.

Hi, I was listening to a podcast about pipes the other day and the cost of pipe tobacco in the USA was mentioned. As I recall, varied from about $5 an oz (28g) upwards. In various places, I've seen US pipe smokers complain at the high cost of tobacco. In the UK, we pay nearer $10 for an...
