I open up a tin or jar from my cellar and then only smoke that blend till it is empty. I will have an English Blend and a VA going at the same time though. Just wondering if anyone else is like this.
 
I sure am not like this,I try to be but it doesn't work out, I have jars sitting every where
 
We all differ in our approach and habits. And preferences.

I'm no more odd than you Dave.

Of course others might take issue with that!

Far be it from me to deny your oddness, Dave. But yes, I do the same. Every now and again, I'll have cause to open a tin and jar it ASAP (usually if I worry about the seal when it arrives). And of course, when this happens I usually sample a bit at the time. Other than that- same deal... One English and one Va or VaPer until they're gone then another from that family gets the spotlight.
 
I wish I had your discipline. I tend to bounce around between jars & tins like a kid in a candy store.
 
I am torn two ways with pipe tobacco. I am a bit of a completionist. I tend to watch movies and finish books that I have long lost interest in, finish projects at work that I am burned out on, and see other various things to the bitter end. But then the variety loving experimental side of me that hates eating the same thing every day, or drinking the same beer or whiskey all the time, cries out for changes in flavor, decries the old standby and desperately pines for something new to try.

That said, I tend to smoke my standards probably 60% and the rest of the time I bounce around my stash of little 4oz jars sampling new mixtures that I have on hand. Occasionally I'll open a new tin.

Dave, you're not odd. If anything you've sharpened your tastes to a fine degree. I hope to be there one day. It would make figuring out what I want to smoke WAY easier.  :D

Sounds like what most of us did back when I started smoking. We weren't able to "Ping-Pong" around the world of 'baccy as is the practice today. You tried some blends. found a few you liked and pretty much smoked those day in, day out. It's pretty much what I've done over the past 40+ years though I smoke a few more blends today than I did then. I normally have two to three tins at the most open at once and my two bail top jars I use for my two fave va bulk blends "open" at one time. I wouldn't worry about it, you sound quit "normal" to me  :twisted: :twisted: 
 
I'm all over the place with tobacco. Just the way I smoke my pipes. No formal rotation; just whatever hits me at the time!! It's no big deal. As ol' "Blue Eyes" put it..."I did it my way!!"
 
I don't find anything odd with that sir, of course I like Tuna fish and jelly sandwiches.

I open one tin DDNR this month for my primary smoke for the month which I smoke in the morning.
I have one 1/2 pint jar Dorchester open for my afternoon smoke and one PSLBF for my after supper smoke. That's it.

I us to smoke Escudo all day but, got to be old shoe. To each his own.

My brother eats like that ... eats the veg, the potato, the meat, the bread, whatever ... one item at a time ... I've always thought that odd.

He, however, thinks I'm odd for eating a bite of this, then a bite of that ...

Your method might be considered odd by those of us who tend to wander here and there, taking a taste of this, then a taste of that ... you might well think what we who make random choices do is odd ...

Like beauty, oddness lies in the eye of the beholder ...

Well, I'm an idiot; I have a lot of tobaccos in the "cellar" (in Mason/Bell jars), but I like like to open them up from time to time just to smell the contents.

I smoke infrequently (twice a week or so), but carrying a pipe, a bit of tobacco, matches and a pipe nail... makes me feel good!

I hope there is room for us all in the pipe world. Even an idiot like me.
 
I don't think you're odd at all, although I am more like BigCasino in my smoking habits.
 
I have about 8 different tobaccos open at all times, but I will always finish one before I open another one. I hope that makes sense.

Describes me, perfectly.

Silly as I'm sure it sounds, I find myself bouncing around to try new things and then instantly annoyed with myself for bouncing around in the first place. I suppose we're all a bit nuts.
 
I usually have a rotation of about 4-5 different tobaccos each day.  I use ceramic jars that I just pop open, load a pipe and close it back up.
 
I carry at least three different tobacco containers (small) with my pipe pouch.
 
I go through 10-12 pipe loads a day...usually different tobacco for each time.  Maybe that is odd.

I imagine it takes all kinds to float a boat! Thanks for all the replies letting me know I am still semi-sane! :twisted:
