I am not a big fan of cigars, or at least the ones I have tried. I have had some Macanudo's with the white and green label. They are ok but they can be a bit harsh.

That being said cigars are good for situations where pipes are inconvenient. What are some recomendations for mild cigars that are smooth for a guy who does not normally smoke 'em?

If you're looking for a Connecticut wrapped cigar besides a Macanudo try Oliva Connecticut Reserve or 5 Vegas Gold.

If it turns out your real problem is that you don't like the taste of a Connecticut wrapper leaf give La Aurora or 5 Vegas Classic or 5 Vegas Gold Maduro a try. Most cigars with a Cameroon leaf are pretty mild.

I'll have to agree with Ocelot, Oliva Connecticut Reserve ,,,mild, flavorful, quality

Give the Perdomo Champagne a try. It's not a cheapy but I think you will enjoy it. I'm not a fan of mild cigars but I did enjoy the flavor.

I will second the recomendations of Ocelot55, The 5vegas are good inexpensive smokes. The 5 vegas gold Natural is good but has a very brief spot that reminds me of a barnyard. It comes and goes quickly so dont let that keep you away from it.

the My Father series by Jaime Garcia is also an excellent smoke

Yup, was going to suggest the same thing, particularly the My Father Le Bijou.

Greycliff G2's are mellow, fairly creamy and somewhat sweet. They are really light on the palate and they were quite a bargain for a while on Cigar Intl. too.

Rocky 1999's.

They were the cigar that convinced me I actually enjoyed cigars. From there, I went complex. But very often, I return to simple.

More bones, Ashton Cabinet. Never a disappointment.

Every pipe man's cigar query....What shall I try? Two cents here is try a good cigar. If you try a cheap flat mild stick it will bore you and you'll continue to say you do not like cigars. On the other hand, you might try a good $5.00 stick, one with a dark Maduro wrapper and a 54 inch ring guage that you can sink your teeth into. Trick is to enjoy what you smoke and if the cigar is really mild there is not an awful lot of flavor to enjoy.

Choose a cigar like a Hoyo Presidente; a 6 incher with a Maduro Wrap
Suck the tip for about one minute to get it nice and wet
Punch (don't cut) the end
Then test the draw without lighting for about a minute to get the aroma and the sensation of the tobacco leaf
Smell the aroma at the end you are about to light and become acclimated to your first great cigar.

Lighting....
Take the cigar and hold it comfortably in your hand at a 45 degree angle and hold your lighter under it while you rotate it to get the end lit.
After about 10-15 seconds, then place the cigar in your mouth and rotate it keeping your lighter about one inch below the end of the cigar allowing the flame to rise and meet the cigar leaf while you keep rotating. In about 20 seconds you're done and your cigar wrapper is properly lit. If the end has a flame just blow it out and your good to go.

Puff your cigar gently, savor the aroma and let the smoke exit your mouth naturally. No need to exhale. Now you are on a manly journey with a cigar worthy of the man it needs to please.

Always take your first road trip on a smooth road with great scenery. That way you'll want to come back. Cigars are exactly the same.

I'll have to try that one. Last weekend I had a Rocky Patel Maduro, & I was not impressed..

I talked to a cigar guy and he said that the problem with RPs is that they are inconsistent. He makes a good blend from what tobacco is available but doesn't line up the resources to continue to make it.

That's an easy one, try this.
