Every pipe man's cigar query....What shall I try? Two cents here is try a good cigar. If you try a cheap flat mild stick it will bore you and you'll continue to say you do not like cigars. On the other hand, you might try a good $5.00 stick, one with a dark Maduro wrapper and a 54 inch ring guage that you can sink your teeth into. Trick is to enjoy what you smoke and if the cigar is really mild there is not an awful lot of flavor to enjoy.
Choose a cigar like a Hoyo Presidente; a 6 incher with a Maduro Wrap
Suck the tip for about one minute to get it nice and wet
Punch (don't cut) the end
Then test the draw without lighting for about a minute to get the aroma and the sensation of the tobacco leaf
Smell the aroma at the end you are about to light and become acclimated to your first great cigar.
Lighting....
Take the cigar and hold it comfortably in your hand at a 45 degree angle and hold your lighter under it while you rotate it to get the end lit.
After about 10-15 seconds, then place the cigar in your mouth and rotate it keeping your lighter about one inch below the end of the cigar allowing the flame to rise and meet the cigar leaf while you keep rotating. In about 20 seconds you're done and your cigar wrapper is properly lit. If the end has a flame just blow it out and your good to go.
Puff your cigar gently, savor the aroma and let the smoke exit your mouth naturally. No need to exhale. Now you are on a manly journey with a cigar worthy of the man it needs to please.
Always take your first road trip on a smooth road with great scenery. That way you'll want to come back. Cigars are exactly the same.
